Jason S. Global Moderator Posted December 14, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted December 14, 2011 What kind of cell service do you have? for instance - if you have a smartphone, you could tether it to your computer and get internet service through your phone. also, it might help us to know where in the world you are
Glassed Silver
It depends what your preferences are. How much would you like to download in one month? Add Youtube to that. Do you have Netflix or something like that? Do you purchase digital wares that are downloaded? DLCs for consoles/PC? Do you do online gaming, if yes, which kinds of games or more precisely which titles? What would you LIKE to spend, what stretches the budget? How long will you live there and are you going to do some realtime tasks over internet? (Remote desktop connections, Skype, etc?) The best deal really is defined by your usage! We hardly can tell you the best option without knowing what you need. :) I personally can't stand caps, but also 1.5MBit/s would kill me haha  Thank God it's not for me... :p Glassed Silver:mac
kikiss
well i'm in Ontario Canada. i guess it would be helpful if i listed what i would normally do on the net. i do have a smart phone but cant get enough data without leaving me poor for me to hook my computer to it or i would be doing that already lol, and seeing as i'm living with my fiance and he owns the house i'll be living here for a very long time :). ok so what i do on the net, 2 of us use netflix, we download music(between the 3 of us maybe 30-50 song a month) and i sometimes will download things for games but not often and can also do that at my parents and then just put it on my flash drive and take it home for myself, i play jade dynasty but that about the only online game i play and the fiance plays treble wars which he can do on his phone so not a big thing lol, other then that its mostly used for chatting on msn using forms, and random googling. as for money i would like to spend less then what i have to no matter what way i go, but then that just leaves me without getting net, so i'd like to keep it below 70-80 a month but also concerned about how much bandwidth i'll have cause i used to go over my 30gb at least every 3 or so months. sc302 Veteran Posted December 14, 2011 Veteran Share Posted December 14, 2011 I would rather have a wireless card with an unlimited plan. You can either get a mobile hot spot and connect with wifi or get one of these and hookup your 3g/4g modem to it. http://www.staples.c...07550148:927672 Possibly be the same or slightly more expensive and get better bandwidth. Wind has unlimited data for 35 a month. http://www.windmobile.ca/en/Pages/data-plans.aspx
PNWDweller
Dial up just won't do for Netflix. It is a bandwidth hungry especially with higher quality video. To do the same on dialup................you...........wo...................uld..................see..................some.......................ser................................ious......................buff..........ering. I am with others though that say if you could use a mobile broadband either through your phone or through your mobile carrier which is separate from the phone, you might be better off speed wise. Maybe financially too since some companies give a kickback for adding an "additional line" even though the modem wouldn't be that, some do give a nice discount.
