Hum
Till now, we've had to rely on guesswork based on our officemates' forehead bulges, receding chins, and subliterate grunts to gauge how much Neanderthal is in their ancestry. No more! 23andMe, the popular personal genomics company that analyzes your DNA based on a saliva sample, has added a test for Neanderthal percentage into their analytic suite. The test compares the contemporary human genome to the Neanderthal genome to calculate what percentage of your own DNA comes from that branch of the family. "Most people have Neanderthal DNA, on average about 2.5 percent," according to 23andMe. "But there are outliers, who have much more." How do you stack up ? :shifty: source
+Mirumir Subscriber¹ Posted December 19, 2011 Subscriber¹ Share Posted December 19, 2011 My coach at school was 100% neanderthal: grim-faced, short, thick-boned, could run as fast as an Olympic athlete and could lift a tonne. Apparently P??bo?s work has also resonated beyond the scientific community as well. At a talk late last year, P??bo told a group of neuroscientists that for months he?s been keeping emails from people who have claimed that they were Neanderthal and should be included in his study. Several women have written to him volunteering their husbands as subjects for study. BeeJAyP 1 Share

Southern Patriot
I'd guess that mine is pretty high, just judging by my physical characteristics. I'm short (5'3"), somewhat stocky and muscular, rather hairy, and surprisingly strong for my size.

Southern Patriot
You're a dwarf, mate. :) Actually, I refer to myself as a Hobbit quite often, LOL. I even have the tufts of hair on the top of my feet to prove it! I actually attribute the fact that I'm so short partly to the fact that I had spinal meningitis two times within one year right at the start of puberty. I have a feeling that it affected my pituitary gland and stunted my growth somewhat. I only grew about another inch or so after the time that I had it, and before that I was fairly average in height. Southern Patriot
Zero Neanderthal here. 100% Scandinavian-based Sapien. If you are human and not of African origin, then you almost certainly have SOME Neanderthal DNA, even if is only a couple of percent. quote from the article: Most interesting of all is that, although Neanderthals disappeared long ago, their DNA lives on in all non-African people. Farstrider
You're a dwarf, mate. :) Ha ha sorry but this was funny! Well I am African (South African) born and bred but my ancestors are from English (Barnard), Irish (McCracken), French, and even a bit of Jewish (Finkelstein) so I would guess I also have some Neanderthal DNA then! Southern Patriot
damn, this sucks. Are you sure its not genetics? Well, I'm adopted, and have never met my birth parents, so I really have no way of knowing. All I know is that shortly after I had that double dose of meningitis I stopped growing. English, Scottish, Cherokee and Apache here. Wonder how much the test costs, will have to read on. The test kit is $99, but you have to sign up for a year's subscription to their service that keeps you informed of any developments in genetic research that would apply to you. That costs an extra $9 a month.
