sean l
Hey everyone, Recently at work, we switched to a new T1 line with a new switch capable of PoE. With this we changed all the IP addresses from 192.168.xx.x to 10.11.x.xx. The problem I have been having is that when I try to switch the IP addresses of the cameras in the camera software, they are unable to connect. I can still connect them to the camera software with the OLD IP addresses (192.168.x.xx), but then I obviously cannot connect to the network with that old IP address. A little info about the network: We're running Windows Server 2008 and a Foundry 4802 swtich. We have the Server giving out DHCP, and to be honest I have never worked with a Windows server that gives out DHCP on its own. Do I have to set the "scope" for the cameras on the server, the same way I would do it with the IP addresses for all of our workstations? Or is there another way I need to set the IP addresses for those cameras? Thanks everyone!
xendrome
If you are going into the camera's and changing the IP's and they still answer to traffic on the old 192.168.x.x, then it's a fault of the cameras as it sounds like they are static IP and not DHCP anyway. They do not seem to be saving the settings.
Teebor
If the cameras are maintaining their 192.168 address when plugged in to the new network with the DHCP server they are probably statically assigned So you will need to set a PC/laptop to an ip address in the same range as the cameras and change them all to either a static IP that fits in with your new network or to DHCP. You may need to reboot the cameras after doing this to make them work Once you have changed them all to be in the range for your new network change the IP for the PC/laptop you were using back to what it was (dhcp or whatever)
sean l
I switched the the camera system's computer to the IP address of "10.11.1.40" (the cameras are supposed to be 41-43). So after that I try to log into the cameras through the old IP addresses, and still get nothing. As of right now I have that one PC still in the old IP range of the cameras. The way the guy that set it up said that BEFORE I switch the computer to "10.11.1.40" I have to change the camera IP addresses. I can log into the cameras, but it does not allow me to switch their IP addresses. So I'm logging into the camera's IP addresses themselves, but I do not see anywhere to change settings, it only gives me options to view the cameras. They are ACTi 8511. +BudMan MVC Posted December 20, 2011 MVC Share Posted December 20, 2011 What camera systems are you using - sounds like if there is a specific computer for the cameras, and no place on the cameras to change ip or change from static to dhcp?? Are they dhcp or static?? Then maybe the computer for the camera systems gives them their IP? If you could give us the details of what camera's/system you are using we can look up how to change IP. On your dhcp server, are you trying to make a different scope for these cameras? Are they on a different vlan then the rest of your network. If you running different vlans with your switch you would have to setup the switch to proxy/forward dhcp requests to where you want them to be set from. Some more details of your network would be very helpful -- is it just flat where everything is on this 10.11.1.0 /24 network - or are there multiple segments, etc. etc.. sean l
The cameras themselves and the computer that runs them is static, every other workstation on the system is DHCP. The only place I can find that allows me to look at the current IPs of the cameras is within the camera software on the actual PC, and not when I log into the cameras via their IP addresses. These cameras are not on a VLAN. Everything is on the 10.11.1.0, with 50-250 set for DHCP, and he wants the computer running the cameras to be 40, and the cameras themselves 41-
+BudMan MVC Posted December 20, 2011 MVC Share Posted December 20, 2011 "and not when I log into the cameras via their IP addresses." So you can not change the IP when you connect to the cameras?? And you change them on the PC? So going to ask again -- WHAT cameras/system are you using?? So we can look up the manual you seem to be too lazy to do yourself?? sean l
No, I can't change them at all. It give me the ability to view/change the IP addresses, but obviously it is just looking for the address and not changing it. I have the manual pulled up, and it gives me nothing about changing the static IP addresses, it is not that I'm lazy. They are ACTi 82X1's. sean l
An update: It was actually a script error in the browser based application that was causing the IP addresses not to change. I rolled back to an older version of their IP utility, and was able to update from there. Thanks to everyone for trying to help!
