7 People Gunned Down After Opening Christmas Gifts

GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) ? Seven people believed to be related had opened their Christmas gifts and started cleaning up the wrapping paper when they were shot to death in a suburban Texas apartment, police said Sunday.

Authorities said they believe the shooter is among the dead, but got a warrant before doing a full search on the small chance that it was otherwise.

Four women and three men, aged 18 to 60, were found in an adjoining kitchen and living room area when police entered the apartment around midday, said Police Sgt. Robert Eberling. Two handguns were found near the bodies in the apartment that was decorated for the holiday with a tree, he added.

"It appears they had just celebrated Christmas. They had opened their gifts," Eberling said.

The victims have not yet been identified, but Eberling said it appears they all died of gunshot wounds. He said authorities still don't know what sparked the incident.

Grapevine Police Lt. Todd Dearing said investigators believe that all the victims were related, but that some were only visiting and didn't live in the apartment. He said police are looking for other relatives to inform.

"Seven people in one setting in Grapevine, that's never happened before. Ever," Dearing said.

He said police were performing a "meticulous" search of the apartment and he expects them to be on the scene for many hours.

Police and firefighters first rushed to the Lincoln Vineyards complex after receiving an open-ended emergency services call at about 11:30 a.m., Eberling said.

"There was an open line. No one was saying anything," he explained.

LOL Maybe a small deceptacon jumped out of one of the gifts and started panic-shooting.

Sure they could have died with knife wounds or sword wounds or nails or other things, but the gun made it way easier and cleaner. God bless guns. Or no?

A person pulled the trigger, and they are responsible for their deaths, not a gun.

A gun can't fire itself... the people could have died other ways, there was intent there so why isnt that being argued instead of 'omg can't allow guns for civilians'.

It's easier to scream about the "evil" of guns.

A gun is simply a tool with no will or personality of its own. To blame a firearm for a crime is the same as saying a pencil is to blame for misspelling a word, cars cause accidents etc. The evil person that picked up the gun a pulled the trigger is responsible, period!

about the gun comment, anthrax doesn't kill either unless released by someone, would you feel ok with everyone carrying around some?

there is practical reasons for owning a gun.

Why do you not believe in personal responsibility?

It is just harder to kill more people when guns are not available - simple clear cut logic.

Actually, the issue is that there is no logic. You clearly do not believe that people can control their own actions. Should the government instead control the people, since people are obviously unable to control themselves by your standards?

Also, I hate to burst your bubble, but murder still gets committed in places where arms are banned. I know, it's shocking.

I still don't understand why we as americans continue to cry the "It's not guns it's people". Clearly the PEOPLE have issues maintaining civil standards while they posses guns.

Yeah americans are like "Shoot first, ask later.".

Using guns to solve problems is NOT the right way. Good on our country banning guns. Yes we can own guns but it is heavily restricted. And is not legitmate way to solve disputes.

Like what? And Self-Defense is NOT a good reason.

...except it is, and the courts here have found that to be so. Your country has subjects, this country has citizens. As for the "shoot first, ask later" nonsense, i'm not quite sure where you get that from. Maybe you watch too much TV?

Not going to get into the gun ownership thing either way. Not only tough for the families, but sucks for the cops that have to work the murders on the holiday, too.
