VanAlex
Hi! I just installed a new Speedtouch 330 USD ADSL modem , and today would be the first time I would use ADSL. The modem is connected to the line will all green solid leds (according to the manual that's good ) But when I create the intenet connection and it gets to the user/password verification, stays there for 10 or so seconds then displays the message on the topic with the error code 0721. Could the fact that I bought the modem in portugal and I'm using it in Angola have anything to do with it? And could there be a step missing by the ISP itself?Like activating something? I'm running out of ideias and the help desk will only open in 10 hours. Thanks :)
RadishTM Veteran Posted October 1, 2003 Veteran Share Posted October 1, 2003 There is usually a utility to configure the modem to which country you are in, check to see if you have that :) .... Also your line or usename/password may not be activated by the ISP yet .... Radish?
VanAlex
Yeah...unfortunatly this is like the firt broadband service here in Angola so I really can't coun't a lot on help from the ISP, or software that has this country listed.....Since I got my ADSL modem for free in Portugal they will not support the configuration of it...But I'm starting to believe that it is a problem with them. Modem I got: Speedtouch USB 330..free Same modem bought from the local ISP: 300 USD........ Monthly fee for a 256/128 ADSL link......150 USD.........Competition needed!! :)
\\Coroner//
Aside from what Radish said... It being purchaced in another area could mean the defaulted VPI/VCI settings are not correct for your local ISP. This can prevent you from getting any further than the DSLAM down the street or to it even. Ex. I moved from St. Louis MO to Greenville, SC and brought my dsl modem with me. I had to change the VPI/VCI for it to work with the local ISP settings. If you have a web page control style of the modem then you should be able to find these settings in some type of advanced configuration setup. I do suggest checking with your local ISP to find out for sure what these settings are.
VanAlex
Thanks \\Coroner//, At least I have another place to start looking for solutions
RadishTM Veteran Posted October 1, 2003 Veteran Share Posted October 1, 2003 Yep, \\Coroner// is correct, there are certain VPI/VCI settings that need to be changed in order to use the modem with your ISP .... Like my VPI is 0, and my VCI is 38 on my ADSL modem, you need to find out via your ISP's website for the correct numbers .... Radish?
VanAlex
Now this is a simple USB modem...where or how could I change those settings? I've been searching for some kind of application or something similar, but no luck so far....Also I'm downloading now the manual, but I don't imagine they put things like that there. VanAlex
My ISP requires a password (wich I know) ... Angola Telecom .... The only one for broadband here....Unless I chosse a 1000 USD a month for sattelite solution.
~Bull}{Dog~
Do you know which protocol they are using? If its PPPoATM then you will need to make sure the connection you create is a standard dialup connection, though if its the more standard PPP0E then the boardband connection with a username and password will be the one to use. VanAlex
I think it's the second option....I do need a user name and password, but no number though. I tried something just for the hell of it....I changed the protocol from PPP to SLIP and it connects ...or so it says since I don't have access to anything ...neither do I receive an IP Address....Maybe this helps the most enlighted of you guys.... Still the way to Configure it is PPP, that I'm sure.
akme
Hi there this is my first post here :-) My vpi/vci is 1 and 50 ...i also have to use g.dmt all isps use diff vpi/vci..and the when you run thecd for the alcatel its sets them up for you..so you need to be in your reg edit looking for vpi and vci and change them to what your isp uses..or you will just get error 721
