Baz_
Hi Guys, Im looking for a little advice, We have Sky HD in one bedroom, we can go for the simple route of a Coaxial cable running all around the house, But in stead of using Coaxial is there any way to use cat6 cable to send out HD signal to Tvs in the house, Ive seen things like these http://ukhdmi.com/hd...hernet_QQ101246, http://www.tvcables....t-extender.html and a few videos such as . But what i want to do is send out the HDMI from sky to the TV above it , as well as 2 TV's upstairs, and would prefer to be able to use the controllers, Would it be possible via Powerline adapters or using soemthing like them above with some sourt of cat6 switch/hub? Am open to different aspects,Its all because i want to have HD us stairs, and before any one asks i have my reasons and i dont want to take out aditional Sky boxes (which would be the easier option)
cybertimber2008
You can't use powerline adapters with those. You need CAT6 end to end. I haven't heard if it works with a HUB (would be nice, that would be cheap HD splitters!) but I think you'll need a HDMI splitter --> HDMI to CAT6 adapter --> cat6 --> CAT6 to HDMI --> tv --> ??? --> profit! Baz_
Thanks, Yeh Buttus i posted a link similar to that above, Also a little cheaper, Just a pain for having to run 4 Ethernet cables to 2 different bedrooms and a splitter down stairs lol, thought there may be a little easier way than that,
Roger H. Veteran Posted January 10, 2012 Veteran Share Posted January 10, 2012 You can use HDMI 1.4a cables to do ethernet over HDMI but I don't know HDMI over ethernet. That would be kinda cool though but in a way would suck cuz you'd change the channel on the main system and it changes the channel everywhere. neoraptor
cheaper (not sure about the quality) + free shipping http://www.dealextreme.com/p/1080p-hdmi-v1-3-over-cat5e-6-rj45-utp-cable-extenders-repeaters-2-piece-pack-65148
The Teej
Remember, Cat 6 cable will only work for around about 35-50 meters when using it for HDMI... Cat 6a cable however can go the whole 100m easy. I would strongly recommend against Cat 5e cable as it can only do up to a gigabit maximum, whereas HDMI can go up to potentially 10.2GB. 1GB should be fine for most HD movies, but it's something to take into consideration regardless. You don't wanna buy a ton of Cat 5e cable only to get a bunch of white sparkles all over your screen because the data isn't being sent through fast enough.
