How to remove broken Firefox extensions?

Recommended Posts

Hi, what with Mozilla updating Firefox what seems like almost every 5 minutes now, I often end up with broken extensions, which offer no way to uninstall them. Is there any utility that will allow me to uninstall these broken extensions quickly and easily? If not, how do I do this manually? Ideally FF should offer to uninstall broken extensions whenever it updates, not just disable them. Any help would be appreciated.

PS

The reason I want to uninstall them is I use another extension to regularly back up my profile, and it always chokes and hangs on broken extensions.

What ext and what version of firefox - most ext will work, even if they are not set for the version your using. You can turn off the check, and everyone I have used works even though it doesn't pass the check, etc.

I'm on Firefox 9.01, although given that this was over 5 minutes ago, things may have changed significantly in that time, lol. I have FF set to automatically update, so whatever the most recent version is I have it. There are a few extensions that don't work, don't have the option to remove them and/or that I don't have a use for any more. So how do I remove these? Also How do I disable the check for any I may want to keep?

here is one way

After installing the Add-on Compatibility Reporter, your incompatible extensions will become enabled for you to test whether they still work with the version of Firefox or Thunderbird that you're using. If you notice that one of your add-ons doesn't seem to be working the same way it did in previous versions of the application, just open the Add-ons Manager and click Compatibility next to that add-on to send a report to Mozilla.

I would have to assume once they are enabled the uninstall should work as well if you just don't have use for them any longer.

Do you actually mean plugins, like Java, Adobe Acrobat, etc.? Those aren't installed by Firefox, so have their own methods of removal (they should appear as programs to uninstall on Windows itself).

Otherwise, extension removal should be as simple as going to the Addon Manager and clicking remove, regardless of whether they're enabled.

If the broken addons are preventing Firefox from even loading, start it in Safe Mode. Should be a shortcut in your Start Menu.
