sean l
Hey community! My boss asked me earlier if there was any alternatives to a credit card machine using a standard phone line. We recently upgraded to a VOIP system, and would like to get rid of the phone line. I was wondering if there were any alternatives to using just a telephone line/service for a credit card terminal? Over the VoIP system we have? He is aware of the ability of using a smart phone application to do this task, but he owns a very busy jewelry store and is not interested in that option. Thanks everyone!

Thanks everyone! There are wireless terminals that look exactly like those you described, but instead work over GSM/GPRS. They're quite common where I live and are pretty useful in restaurants for example, because they can bring the terminal over to your table. sean l
Thanks! Do they work over a standard wireless provider? (T-Mobile, AT&T, etc) I'm pretty clueless about this considering my boss sent me an e-mail that said "Contact the company", when responded saying I didn't know what company handled the processing and asked which company, he sent me the name of OUR company... Olly-
We just replaced our cardreaders at work which have the ability to connect over a standard phone line or through a broadband connection via Ethernet. They came from a company called Hypercom (http://www.hypercom.com).
