0 Guest
Puran Defrag is about the best you are going to find, and it's free! :)
0 +Xinok Subscriber² Posted January 16, 2012 Subscriber² Share Posted January 16, 2012 I suggest Defraggler, it actually seems to optimize the order the files on the drive. Auslogics is fast, but it seems to have a less sophisticated algorithm that isn't as effective. Ignuition 1 Share
0 Daedroth
As long as some performance increase is notable.... You'll only notice a performance increase if your file system is massively fragmented. (DON'T DEFRAG A SSD DRIVE)
0 yowanvista
+1 for Defraggler.
0 Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted January 16, 2012 Veteran Share Posted January 16, 2012 I generally use Defraggler.
0 DavidM
As long as some performance increase is notable.... What kind of performance increase are we talking about? NOTHING, is going to make a 5400rpm hd preform like a 7200rpm hd, and don't even think about getting SSD like increases. The platters only spin so fast, and as someone posted above unless your hd is a complete wreck fragment wise, you probably won't be able to notice the difference at all. I do use Defraggler, but only every once in a while, just let Windows manage the day to day stuff and run a defragmenter once a month or so. You might think about partitioning your hard drive, I have a "Windows", a "Games" and a "Stuff" partition. I only defrag the Windows and Games partitions, the stuff get written to the most but I don't care if it gets fragmented.
0 chaos mage
I love MyDefrag myself. Most peoples HDs are a complete wreck unless they defrag often. Especially with XP, since vista and 7 have built in defrag tools (which only run if the comp is idle of course.) It's not the platter speed that's the problem in such cases. Hell, I have a 5400rpm drive and a 7200rpm drive that give almost the exact same speeds. (110 megs going down to ~50 at the end) Defragging is an extremely important thing to do for HDs. The performance increase is very noticable.
