Wireless signal odd issue

Recommended Posts

So my wife's laptop has been doing so odd things with the wireless connection, while online browsing sites, the connection (wireless) resets, you see the wireless signal suddenly go from 5 bars to none, with a circle indicating that it is searching for the connection. From where she is using the laptop to where the router is, is less then 100 ft with only one wall between. The odd thing is that the router indicates that the wireless signal is on, and has been for 12 days. I'm guessing that the router has not been reset in 12 days? I have checked all the adapter setting to ensure that power management is not running (allow windows to shut the device sown to conserve power) I am at a loss as to what to check next! The router is a NetGear WNDR 3300 dual band. The wireless channel is set to: up to 270Mbs at 2.4GHz

I had this same problem till I changed to one of the higher channels, found that the cordless phones next door used same channel and each time they got a call I got knocked off and it had to reaquire the signal.

^ Interesting, where do I change the channel?

The option should be on the same page as where you set your SSID, password, etc.

Before you do that though, install inSSIDer (it's free and small). It plots all the surrounding wireless networks in your area and helps you pick the best (clearest) channel. It does not display other sources of interference though (cordless phones, appliances, etc.)

You should install a signal booster in the kitchen.

Took me a second. Hah.

There are no other wireless networks around us, I have checked this already, but most likely would not hurt to check again!
