Systems Administrator Reacts to Windows 8

For those of you watching the video that don't have access to the audio. The Video goes something like this.

The Admin guy clicks the start button and says "WTF is this crap, give me my old computer back"

Then end.

PLEASE tell me none of them are systems admins? They should not have jobs. Microsoft themselves has stated numerous times that the metro ui will be allowed to be turned off via group policy.

ALSO any admin who actually does their job should at least know what windows 8 looks like because they should be looking into this stuff as part of their job.

As a Network Admin I do not find this funny.

And just where has MS stated this? Now keep in mind that the start screen IS PART OF METRO. I distinctly remember a post on the b8 blog where it was stated that they did not want to offer the option to disable the start screen.

Honestly, that was my reaction as well when I installed and booted Windows 8 for the first time.

When XP was launched, a lot of people called it a "fischer price" looking interface....well, in my opinion what they started with XP they finished with 8. I ended up reinstalling 7 and threw away my 8 Beta Discs within an hour.

I hate the new touch screen like screen.

What i'm probably going to be doing is buy some sort of tablet device, maybe the Dell Inspron Duo, to install windows 8 on and use it so I can help support my customers and learn windows 8. if Windows 8 keeps going in the direction we all think it is, then Windows 8 will not touch (no pun intended) / be installed on my main computer, my laptops or any other computer that does not have a touch screen.

Can't even hear what he was saying. But even so, you guys keep slating it being for touch. Give it till Beta to reevaluate your opinions.

Smart (the ones should have the damn job) administrators / techies should be excited for W8 - have you seen the new Task Manager?

The new Task Manager is sex.

Also Metro GUI is not a replacement for classical desktop, unless you don't know squat about W8.

Also, no audio - so video is useless.

There is audio, is just too low.

Also, yes,you can tweak through the registry to disable Metro UI, however it's a tweak and not exactly a "option".

That tweak doesn't exactly work right either. Yes it disables Metro but when I tried it the Start Menu lost a few of its functions. Things didn't work quite correctly.

There is audio. The system admin comes in and states what the hell is that , it looks like garbage. That showed me right there he should not have a job. Even if you do not plan on having windows 8 on your network. You should at least know what the next windows looks like. Thats why i hope this was all staged.

I was actually impressed that the developer preview off windows 8 actually works with all those monitors.

And this same guy probably disables UAC, system restore, desktop search, and Aero in Windows 7.

That being said, I'm still skeptical about Windows 8. I like the start screen, I like the desktop, but they really need to fuse them together somehow...

Disabling UAC and system restore? You just described a good portion of the Neowin members  For reasons I will never understand.

i got a kick out of the idiot touching the screen after they said it was built for touchscreens.. like the upgrade was going to put a digitizer in his monitor automatically

I always find it funny how people who work in IT are the most reactive people to change anywhere on the planet. It's not really a myth because my brother is EXACTLY the same. He still uses XP for Christ's sake and he's a Software Support Engineer.

You work in an industry that is changing day to day, week to week, month to month and year to year.

How can you work in this industry when your first reaction to anything that changes is to cry or throw a fit?

It uses 0.01% of my system resources! I could have loaded Battlefield 3 faster by an imperceivable amount of time!

Disabling UAC is my number 1, I've got a antivirus to bother me already with popups :p

But disabling system restore O.o, why?

I leave UAC and sys restore,, but I do disable Windows Backup and Search. I have a raid array to replace the backup, and Know where my files are to negate search overhead

Like they say "For Some people it's a job for others it's a passion." Some people when they leave their job the last thing on their mind is computers. Others live it even when they get home.

I wouldn't be surprised if my competition even knew what windows 8 was. When Windows 7 was in the RC stage I went to his office to just talk to a tech in person, kind of chit chat. So I brought up the subject of "Windows 7" He looked at me with a "Just tasted pigs **** " look on his face and said' it's just vista. That was about as far as the conversation got.

I also remember a time I went into his office and he was messing with a Vista machine. It was acting weird. I asked him if it had the latest service pack. So he goes to the system properties. He says it's all up to date. ... I said.. umm... I don't see "Service pack 1" in the name. He said.. well I did all the updates for it. So then he decides to install service pack 1.

So he "Double clicks" internet explorer and goes to MSN.com. Then does a search for "Vista Service pack 1"

My first thought was ....."He doesn't have a copy of Service pack 1 just laying around?

If you're not planning on using it, why should you know how it looks like ?

And he probably did but just played a long. Or like you said, staged.

Like the part where he wants his old PC back and he's looking under the table, obviously he won't find it there, he's just playing along.
