Why are you cheaping out on the router? Just get the best one from Linksys or your favorite company. I don't think any top model is head and shoulders above another.

lol life sucks atm for my house and i did not think there was to much of a difference

ummm, what, huh????

life sucks at the moment for your house, and you did not think there was too much of a difference? If you didn't think there was a difference, why are you asking, and what does life sucking at your house have to do with a wireless router?

Either way, get a netgear WNR3500L-100nas, they're 70 bucks on newegg and will take care of 100% of your needs.

I am very happy with my E4200 linksys. It's probably more than you need. I bought it refurbished for $120.

and if life sucks. sell one of the xboxes and put the money towards a router.

what router do you currently have? What internet speed?

If he spends over $100 for a wireless router, he should at least get one that hits the 600 Mbps mark instead of a crappy linksys.

That (The linksys x3000) would be a decent router if it:

A) Wasn't $200

B) Didn't just support crappy ADSL (cable modem or VDSL I'd say it might be worth $200)

C) Actually does 5 Ghz wireless N (it only supports dual channel 2.4 Ghz)

D) Went over 300 Mbps

E) Could do a print server or NAS with the usb worth mentioning?

Seriously, that router is over priced trash compared to the market right now.

For the same price you could get the Netgear N600 that is so over the top it even has its own dual-core processor inside the router, two ports for either network attached storage or print servers, and can handle high enough thoroughput to route pure fibre optic and comes with a LIFETIME warranty...

Dang, how is spending $100 'cheaping out' on a router?

http://www.newegg.co...pk=asus%20520gu is a great router, especially when flashed with Tomato or DD-WRT, and you can usually even pick up one of these for around $35. (currently $44.00).

Odd, tried clicking on your link and it was trying to route me to http://www.tkqlhce.com ... I donno wtf that is but Microsoft Threat management gateway blocks it.

Edit: heh, but I can click on the link in my quoted reply just fine. lol

Personally, I believe that is "cheaping out" on a router.... for $30 more you get a network attached file server, 3x the range, 6x the speed wirelessly and 10x the speed hard wired.

In my opinion, if you spend less than $50 right now on a router, you're probably getting junk. If you spend over $100 on a router, you're probably getting ripped off.

The Netgear N300 and N600 that I've worked with both went through 3 stories out to approximately 150 yards when configured for max range and I still had an excellent signal at that distance.

I was actually in the process of setting the first one up for a client, and it impressed me so much I bought one for myself the next day, have loved it since.

I would recommend a Draytek personally. It's going to be a little bit out of the range you set there, but you've got a lot going on... I don't think it would be wise to cheap out on the router. I've done it in the past and it always bites you in the ***...
