Osiris
Come on, can someone hunt down and find the file that houses the shutdown screen. that annoying little rectangle boc you know the one, with the options; restart shutdown standby weve got these great themes going but the remenants of luna still haunt the system as it shutsdown. So if anyone can find the file responsilble for this we can customise it, and basically have a fully complete theme, and a shutdown thing that will match that theme. If anyone can do this, please reply and let me know what this file is, much appreciated.
correllium
The 2 you are looking for are in shell32.dll, under Bitmap, 14351 and 14354

Binary
Osiris, as I have answered many times already ;) they are in the msgina.dll. I havent played with it yet, so I dont know if changing it would affect anything.

mephistocorugan
yeah it's covered by msgina.dll (boy does that sound dirty) bitmaps 20140 through 20150. did a test and you can make changes (i just recolored the background, nothing fancy) and it worked fine. funny thing: if you go under dialog resources to 20100, you might just be able to modify the layout of the box itself, though not too sure about what consequences this may have... y_notm
well, I've seen someone who had hibernate as the default option under the shutdown screen compared to standby, so editing placements is at least partially available
Osiris
Hey so it does, yeah seems like it can be changed fine, hrmm now all I gotta do is customise it I guess. hehe lets see how much we can customise a little rectangular box.
usr.bin
This is my shutdown/reboot box. Mines looked like this for about a month or so. The Logoff box is in shell32.dll (i believe), and it's a bit more tricky because that's also the dialog box which has the "Please Wait" when you apply a theme. (Found that out when i went to put "Log Off" and "Switch User" as a bitmap on the dialog, when I applied a theme it said "Log Off" and "Switch User" instead of Please Wait. :D )
Osiris
Hey thanks for the tip, I looked in the shell32.dll and saw there was the dialogs there and was wondering what they were there for. Hey that shutdown looks very clean and sharp would go well with a whistler theme.
Jayzun
Can you send me your shell32.dll? Or the bitmaps that you used? This is extremely cool!
Osiris
On a further note since some other respective skinners have visited the thread I see, and so I dont have to start a new one How in the hell do you put pictures in Windows folders these days? I remember in 2000 or 98 on of them, you could customise the background of folders with a picture of your choice, I cant see to find that option in XP Anyone know how to do this, would be great to know, and very appreciated. thanks. Sleeper Veteran Posted January 13, 2002 Veteran Share Posted January 13, 2002 i havn't tried this in XP but i know it works in 2000. Instead of having to boot into safemode to replace msgina.dll you can add a key into the registry so that it points to a different file, ie msgina2.dll. Just add a key into "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon" MSGINA=msgina2.dll
