+Elі Subscriber² Posted October 5, 2003 Subscriber² Share Posted October 5, 2003 I was too using Norton, I would say that's the best software firewall, however it does has some issues sometimes, it becomes so restrictive at times that it will block several pages with lots of active x or java applets on it, Its anti spam filters will also at times block certain banners and pictures you wouldn't really like to be blocked, for example there was no way on earth to make Norton stop blocking everything that would come from doubleclick.net regardless of putting that domain on the allowed list. Windows XP default firewall is also great, the only negative side of its use is that it will not protect you against suspicious outgoing traffic, Only incoming is monitored. Now I'm using a NETGEAR router and its built in hardware firewall is great, Really I don't need another firewall for now. As AV I still use Norton AntiVirus 2003 and love it. RootWind
I recently switched over from Norton Internet Security and Norton Antivirus 2003, this comp always had Norton, so I always thought my comp was slow on boot-ups all the time (Athlon XP 2000+, 512mb DDR, 80gb). When I installed Norton AV 2004, it immediately causes more problems by hanging up services on start-up resulting in 3 minute boots, so I had to uninstall not only Norton AV 2004, but NIS as well since it somehow made that slow too. So now I switched over to Outpost Pro, and NOD32 (best heuristic engine). I somehow save 20-30 seconds on my boot time without Norton, so now I get those 10 second boots I so longed for. I absolutely love the advanced rules Outpost Pro has, NIS, and MIS give you a joke for advanced tools.

Digital.K
I use ZA free edtion, no real differences from Pro, aside from a few options I don't really need, and I use Panda Titanium for av, however I do not keep it running all the time because any av software seems to love sucking memory, tho Panda isnt that bad at it, I just use it for manual scans, works pretty good. crypticlogic
Kaspersky Personal AV Pro 4.5 and Agnitum Outpost Personal Firewall Pro 2.0. BTW, had Norton 2003 and NOD32 before moving to Kaspersky. Kaspersky caught viruses that both Norton and NOD32 missed.
