Internet connection problem

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've been given a dell Inspiron 1501 laptop and I'm trying to connect it too my home wireless Internet. Only problem is I can't find my network. There doesn't seem to nothing where I can search it. I've tried the Microsoft page but in the Internet network it doesn't shoe a wireless part .

The laptop can connect to the Internet via wireless as the previous user told me they used it. They did say their dad had done something when they first got it and messed it up a little and sometimes the laptop has to be turned of for 15mins

Check the sides of the base for a Wifi ON/OFF switch

And check in Device Manager to make sure there is actually an adapter installed

Also pressing one of the F keys, Fn + F2 ? Maybe

And check the BIOS for any wireless settings to enable

There is no button, I have enabled the network card in device manger and have done Fn F2 but no luck

"I have enabled the network card"

You should have multiple network cards - one being wired, and the other wireless -- example

Do you see the actual wireless card??

Right so I tried what the previous owner suggested for leaving it 15 mins and turning it back on and it worked! I was able to connect to my wireless

However it has limited connect do how can I fix this?

Also how could I fix the problem so I don't have to wait 15 mins all the time to connect?

Sorry but waiting 15 is nonsense.. As to limited connection - that means you didn't get an ip normally

What does ipconfig /all show you -- did get an ip from your wireless router or did you get 169.254

The only thing that would make sense about waiting, would be temp related problem -- if that is the case then its JUNK and never going to be reliable. You try using a wireless usb card with it - does that work normally?

Right the limited connection is now resolved

Regarding the 15 min waiting problem il explain...

The previous user had told me her dad had deleted something when she first got the laptop which messed up the wireless part of the connect to the Internet. From what I can make out is that sometimes the wireless network connection will disappear and not work and when you turn the laptop off and wait a period of time it comes back on after restart

And that theory is nonsense -- if they had deleted something that broke the wireless, it wouldn't come back in 15 minutes ;)

Think about it for 2 seconds, does that make any sense what so ever!

Now a thermal problem and the card goes offline, and then you have to wait til it cools down -- these sorts of issues are common.

So now that you are connected -- if all of sudden the card just "disappears" after prolonged use I would go with thermal issue. Which you can live with, or make sure the fan is working on the machine, etc.
