VII
Attention all movie buffs. Im looking for a movie to watch that sends some kind of sociological message. Something that leaves you with a general message about issues in society. As far as to what subjcet matter per say, consider messages relating to gender roles (boys dont cry), race (american history x), sexuality, politics, violence, work, school, parenting, religeon, or other similar sociological issues. Im doing a comparison analysis paper, and the first two movies in parenthesis were suggested to me. However, I want to get your opinions before I start. SuperJediMedia
Indeed these movies are Oscar-caliber, have you tried to look thru last 10 years of oscar nominated movies with those movies that represent sociological issues?

poind
Life of David Gale, Bob Roberts, Handmaid's Tale, 1984, Eyes Wide Shut, John Q, American Beauty, Clockwork Orange, Six Degrees of Separation, American Psycho, Rabbit-Proof Fence.... The ones you already mentioned (esp. American History X) are quite good, too.... Personally, I think Six Degrees of Separation might have some of the richest material overall, though it can be more complicated. Oh! Monty Python's Meaning of Life would probably have a lot of "issues" brought up in its commentary, but might not be quite what you're looking for. The Vice
I havent seen "Thirteen" but I hear it's pretty 'real'. It's about the reality and stuff of being a teenager. Good luck with your assignment!

Miran
Contact.. Although many people disliked the movie, it did represented the book quite well (which was a best-seller and critically acclaimed). It looks into the two extremes of religious belief - atheism vs. religious fanaticism - and the hypocrisy that is often both. It also explores our overall place in the universe - has to be one of the coolest beginnings I've seen.
