The Windows 8 Metro Experience 1 Day Time-lapse!

Recommended Posts

These FUD threads are getting really tedious. I can't believe such a tiny change has lead to so many months of bitching and moaning.

The funniest thing about this thread is that a guy with that many applications running in his system tray is giving advice on how Windows should work

This is not spam. In fact this is how I envision a typical metro experience. Why wouldn't it be just like this? I mean you click start and "THAT" pops up.

So where's the joke / funny part again? :p Regardless of the fact that's a Metro screen full of Metro apps which means you wouldn't actually get chucked back to the desktop, this seems to be stating a obvious fact, not a funny video. You open start menu, menu appears. You want to use menu again? You open it again. Where's the joke meant to be at? :p

Indeed. I was trying to remove my icons, but I can justify every one. So let me tell you what each one of my icons are

1) Miro - Downloads the newest video casts for me when they become available

2) Gotomanage client - This is an unintended support session so I can log into my machine from the internet.

3) Facebook trillian - Ok I'll admit I should probably turn this one off.

4) Hotkey Pro - It's a program I use so I can use hot keys on my keyboard to quickly navigate to folders and website (example windows key + alt + D opens up my download directory)

5) Skype - Self Explanatory

6) Folder Menu 3 - This gives me the ability to center click on my desktop and get a menu with folders one of which is a folder of apps I always use

7) Outlook

8) Internet Download manager - Sometimes it's there, if I just get done downloading something

9) Roboform - Password manager

10) Logme - I love to use this one via the Ipad. I know it's doubling up alreayd using goto assist, but gotoassist works great to log in with my laptop and logmein works great with my ipad, so I keep them both

11) sandbox - I use this to sandbox all my web activity.

12) Avast

13) Ad Muncher

14) Carbonite - Online backup

15) Gotomanage - This is the one I use to preform remote assistance, sometimes it's open sometimes it's closed, depends if I just used it or not

16) Thunderbird - Depends if I have thunderbird open or not

17) Quickbooks online backup

18) Protector Suite 2009 - I'll admit I should probably get rid of this icon

19) Scan Scan snap manager - Lets me push a button on my document scanner to start a scan

20) VMware - Just turned that icon off, realized I didn't need it.

21) Ultramon.

The rest are standard windows icons. It only looks bad on 1280 by 720 on 1920 by 1200 it looks not bad at all

Why would you keep going to the start menu. Pin your apps to the taskbar like a normal person would, and you wont have to go to the start menu very often.

I consider myself a normal person, I click start probably 50 times a day. I always disable quick-launch, and only pin specific apps to the taskbar on windows 7.

But what is the point, if you're going to have to click start and open the apps anyway? You're making more steps for yourself in the end.

Only time I ever click start is to go to open up Windows Explorer. Other than that I pin all the apps I use to taskbar

Click Start, Type App Name, Hit Enter, boom. Or if there are apps such as.. windows update which there isn't an icon for, and I'd have to go through Control Panel to find.. it's right there. Also I pin apps to the top of my Start Menu, so I go in there to launch apps. I feel it makes things cleaner than a bunch of icons at the bottom of my screen.

Granted, I also have on average 50-60 icons on my desktop folders, files, shortcuts to more files and folders.

If Metro is the new start then you will constantly be going back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and between your desktop and the Metro UI.

Sorry, but I use my computer and windows, not the start menu, so... No...

Hello,

Did you get GoToManage to install and run on the Windows Customer Preview.? I cannot get it to install. It did install on the Developers Preview, but not on the CP. Strange. I would appreciate your input.

Thanks!

I posted this on the Microsoft TechNet forum:

Citrix GoToManage will not run on the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. It goes through the install, but then I get an error. (q2ax_installerexpert.exe - Application Error) The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application.

This is on a clean install of Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Strangest thing is that it, GoToManage/GoToExpress worked perfectly on the Developers Edition of Windows 8 released a couple of months ago. I have been using it up to yesterday with no issues. I installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview and now it will not run. I already contacted Citrix and they do not have any clue yet as to why it does not work on the Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

FYI:

I have the Windows 8 Consumer Preview installed on a Asus EP121 Slate. The Developers Edition of Windows 8 was also installed on the EP121.

Ok great! Glad you made a post about it. I will try to find it to add my issue.

I called Citrix and the tech guy tried everything and nothing worked. :-(
