Japlabot
1. It is a genuine "Email", in that it looks like it came through the email system as an email 2. It does not look like that it genuinely came from the RIAA
He's Dead Jim
1. It is a genuine "Email", in that it looks like it came through the email system as an email 2. It does not look like that it genuinely came from the RIAA Thanks Si, it also had 17 other recipients listed, and was in the yahoo spam box. +BudMan MVC Posted February 21, 2012 MVC Share Posted February 21, 2012 Look at the actual headers, but I doubt that a email from the RIAA would be sent to more than one user at a time ;) And where are the details of your IP? And how would they tie your yahoo account to your IP address? Its junk -- but always look to the headers.. Prob came from some IP address in the EU or China ;) Yeah the RIAA sends their emails off servers in China...
OOOOOOOO
That letter would have arrived on paper, in your post. Legal stuff doesn't come via email :)
AstareGod
I've gotten lots of spam from government agencies and other companies. If the ACTUAL agencies have any legitimate need to contact you, it would most likely be through the USPS, and via certified mail. After all, that's how jury summons and lawsuit notices come. I wouldn't trust anything to go through email - plus, there's no real way for them to verify that the message got to the intended recipient. Even if a delivery or read receipt is sent, that doesn't mean the person who they intended the message to be delivered to actually read it. Plus, anything with an attachment is highly suspicious. I usually delete those without any consideration at all.
