Darn Outlook....

Windows XP Pro SP1. All of the latest and greatest patches. Outlook is telling me:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Admin', Server: 'mail.sethrd.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.nycap.rr.com', Server: 'pop.nycap.rr.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

For THREE different e-mails accounts. Two of the accounts on are the same server, but why is OE telling me I can't connect to ANY e-mail server?

Because OE, just like its daddy, IE, is crap, plain and simple,lol. I know this helps you none, but I feel compelled to spread the word on these 2 misbegotten creations.

Wow Digital_k you are so helpful in troubleshooting sethrd's problem, you are a true asset to this community! You've done so much, but I'll try to pitch in where you fell short.

sethrd, I'm guessing you are using Outlook Express by the format of your error messages you have given us, although you reference it both as Outlook and Outlook Express. Regardless, I did a search of the Microsoft Knowledge base and came across the following articles I think would be helpful to you:

OLEXP: Error Message: The Connection to the Server Has Failed...Error 0x800CCC0E

XIMS: Outlook Express POP3, Error 0x800ccc0e, Socket Error 10061

See the complete search results

I think the answers provided in one of those two articles should solve your problem.

I have to tell you a little secret;

whenever I encounter problems (like: slow response with large amount of messages, terrible newsreader, connection failures, etc),

the first thing I ask is "you know mozilla?" ;)

also a little offtopic; why the hell did MS include scripting support IN an EMAIL client??

Ow, I know, to remotely execute scripts from an email and exploit the victims machine
