Is it possible to replace Outlook's phone extension character?

Question

Android is freaking out when it is trying to dial someone with extension as 555-1234 x 234. It cannot even dial 555-1234 and it just sends a weird message to the carrier, and Verizon claims "call cannot be completed at this time".

It turns out that Android OS (Google) just decided to replace the decades long usage of x for extension with , (comma) for auto 2 second wait and ; (semi column) for waiting for user prompt. While it is very intuitive to have seperate characters for this, I really don't understand why they would decide to disregard x altogether. I am sure this is useful for those who never use outlook or or never sync with corporate server.

So I am checking to see if there is a 3rd party add on, or even something built in to Outlook to change the character used to indicate extension, following the number. Something similar to how it allows time zones or location information, or area code modification.. something like that.
