What the heck is up with google? o_O

Click this link or do a search query for candle truck ... it only shows 1 result but... if you look at the right of the blue line, it says the following...

Results 1 - 1 of about 123,000.

This was told to me in an IM convo... he also sent me a link to a slashdot article... Link

That is usual for Google. I almost always get no answer or few answers (that have nothing to do with the query).

This is the reason why I use Dogpile instead. Opera has some trouble with result links, but Mozilla and IE work fine - that is the reason why I hate Opera (and for the fact it does not follow standards - even IE follows more standards). You can always use Info.com as Dogpile alternative (it has been copied from dogpile I guess) if you don't like it.

I thought google also checks for integrity of webpages, stuff like that, updated versions... so it may have found that many but the most reliable pages only came up with 1. I dunno

I have never gotten that with google, but I can tell you how many results it tells you it has found isn't accurate. What is on the page is accurate. Ex. if it says there are 10,000 results found but only 1 or 2 links are on the actual page, in reality there are only 1 or 2 actual links.

Using Dogpile or some other search engine because Google lies about how many results have been found is rediculous. Google gives me the most accurate searches out of any search engine bar none. Now, if you are not using Google for some other reason (not giving you accurate searches for whatever you search for) then that's understandable.

Dogpile is a meta-search engine, which means it searches from many search engines at one time. That means that you get more results. You can also find relevant results faster as dogpile itself predicts the revelance and allows you to sort results by relevance (and you can also filter results by common words without having to do the search again). Most reliable and informal pages are found by multiple search engines which makes finding them really very much faster. Of course you can still use google as your (primary) search engine (and use dogpile when google fails). I am not saying you should not use Google, just Dogpile makes your life a lot easier.
