OPaul
Are there any alternatives to sitefinder.verisign.com? I remember Microsoft used to have something, what ever happened to it? Is there some why I can set my Internet Explorer up to use it instead of a pointless "The page cannot be displayed" page.
ericnmu
yeah microsoft used to have one for IE. it was really annoying for me... if i typed a url wrong, and was fixing it while the non-existant page loaded it would auto drop my cursor to their search field and i would finish typing the url there.
OPaul
Right, so what happened to it?
MxxCon
it should still be there... if you install google toolbar, or set google as your default search engine, isntead of getting msn search thingie you'll get google+your search term.. OPaul
Yea, that's what I get right now, a Google page yet I uninstalled Google bar a while ago. The Google page isn't very helpful though, it doesn't suggest alternative URLs it just searches for the one that obviously isn't spelled correctly. So how can I get the MSN page back? I imagine it would have something to do with one or more of these keys in the registry; [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] "Start Page"="about:blank" "Search Bar"="http://www.google.com/ie" "Use Custom Search URL"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl] "provider"="gogl" @="http://www.google.com/keyword/%s" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search] "SearchAssistant"="http://www.google.com/ie" "CustomizeSearch"="http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchcust.htm"
MxxCon
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] "Search Page"="http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&ar=iesearch" i don't have "search bar" or "use custom search url" entries [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl] "provider"="" provider is empty and no other keys there [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search] "CustomizeSearch"="http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchcust.htm" "SearchAssistant"="http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchasst.htm"
OPaul
Sweet, not sure which one did it (probably SearchAssistant) but it works now. Thanks.
