Strange Home Network problem...

Recommended Posts

Ok, this happend about a week ago... I have two computers here, networked via a Crossover UTP Cat5e cable... Everything worked fine, file sharing, internet gateway... then one day, it suddently disappear... So i thought i could have been the cable... Today, i got a new one, same type, tried it and dint make any difference... i still get the silly message Media Disconnected/A network cable is disconnected... I also tried to 're-initialize' the network cards, by moving them to an other PCI slots... that didnt help either... so can anyone think of any other thing i could try? Both PCs are on WinXP Pro, the one (gateway - this one) has a 3Com 3C905B-TX and the other PC has a 3Com 3CSOHO 10/100.

Did anybody ever had to deal with such a situation? Also (might help) this appeared after a BSOD having to do with the IDE controller (and while windows was already running). However, the network problem did not happen directly after the BSOD, but a few hours afterwards...

Also, just to make sure... Are there any viruses/trojans/worms which disable networking, and how can i indentify them? (I have NAV2003 on both PCs, and both PCs are clean)
