JasonC
Hi all. I currently have a Netgear DGND3300 but the wireless isn't that great in my room, Its located in the dining area, and my bedroom is about 10 meters away, down the hall and through my door, but I dont get a very good signal at all and it frequently drops. I have an old Netgear DG834G, is there any way I can connect the dg834 to the dgnd3300 via a network cable, which I already have installed, and act as another wireless access point and have 2 wireless networks but have the internet running through the dgnd3300, so the wireless on the dg834 would run back to the dgnd3300 and have internet? Cheers, Jason
JasonC
Don't worry, I kept on playing, and I've figured it out. Jason ybrett23 1 Share

+BudMan MVC Posted February 29, 2012 MVC Share Posted February 29, 2012 Yah sure you not just running a double nat?
JasonC
I don't know? I disabled DHCP on the dg834 and setup the wireless on it too, and then just plugged it into the DGND3300, and it just works, I have 2 wireless networks now, the orignal one from the ddgnd3300 which everyone else uses as they are closer to it, and the dg834 in my room for my laptop and ps3 as the range sucked for me from the 3300. Also changed the LAP IP settings, and chnaged the last digit of the IP to 99.
Graimer
As long as you connect the 2nd router to a LAN port, and not the WAN port, it's should work fine. Also, disable dhcp server(!) and activate dhcp client(so it recieves it's own IP from router 1).
+BudMan MVC Posted February 29, 2012 MVC Share Posted February 29, 2012 "activate dhcp client(so it recieves it's own IP from router 1)." Never seen a router that supported dhcp on the lan interface. But yeah if you did not use the wan port to connect, then your not double natting. Sounds like you did it correctly. Not sure what a LAP IP is ;) but I take it you meant lan and as long as .99 means you put in on the same network as your first router with an IP that does not conflict then your good. JasonC
I've also never seen "dhcp client" I seem to have a slight problem. The netgear dgnd3300 and the dg834 are linked with a network cable, both wireless networks are working, I can connect to either wireless network, I can also login to either router whichever wireless network I am on. The problem seems to be the wireless on the dg834 is very intermittent, it stays connected the whole time, and I have web access, according to the icon in the system tray. But it seems to stop working and start working again. If i connect a cable from my laptop into the dg834, I have no problems at all browsing the net and it will not freeze / stop receiving data at all, It only happens with the wireless on this router. So its either a setting in one of the routers, they are conflicting, although I changed the channels they are on so they both have different channels or the aerial is shoddy, I have a crappy external aerial which isn't in that great condition, but I am waiting for an original aerial to be delivered to me. My laptop shows bars of signal strength for the dg834 wireless and my ps3 shows 100% strength. I'm a little lost on what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. JasonC
Ok... Right, I've tried it with the new aerial, still no different. If I try to watch a video on youtube, it will load the first 10 seconds then stop, then give a a few seconds and it will load teh next 10 seconds, then stop and so forth, this is from the 2nd wireless network on the dg834, If I plug in the network cable between my laptop and the router, it will work completely 100% fine. Currently, I have set the wireless channel on the dgnd3300 to 12 and channel 1 on the dg834, still no improvement. If I disable the wireless on the dgnd3300... it makes no difference to the 2nd wireless connection. I also disabled NAT on the dg834. It makes me think there is something wrong with either the dg834 or there is a setting somewhere I have missed.
