Thats about the size of it.. generally you have to in the movie industry somewhere along the line to get screeners. Or have a p2p client..

OrangeSoul are you talking about getting into movie previews for feedback or the screeners that the oscars send out?

uh. "where can i get warez? someone help me?"

you're not allowed to obtain nor watch screeners unless your someone who is supposed to write comments about it, i.e. movie/film critic. those copies are not (for the) public (population).

i don't live in toronto. but i'm sure if yo uask more questions like this someone will "guide" you into jail.

If you read his post carefully, he says "how do you get into movie screeners", IE how can he get to see movies in cinemas before they are released to the public... how can he get to the private previews? marry the manager of the cinema is my recommendation ;)

Yes how come everyone has to start frying everyone when certain words are mentioned like screener... You'll have to have close friends or family in the movie or be a film critic (when your job depends on it) ect...

Sometimes if you are lucky you can work in the cinema where the movie is being shown this way you can se most of it from the top box thing where the movie is played...

here in montreal the website "cinemamontreal.com" has free ticket offers all the time for advanced screenings. I've gone to a couple, it's pretty easy to win them I don't think many people enter.

I believe "screeners" tend to refer to the recorded copies of films sent to those who will be previewing things, voting for Academy Awards, etc. It's such things that can occasionally get illegally leaked onto the web when something's not even been officially released to the public.

Sounds like "previews" were meant in the original post.

A couple of posts above already point to some good related stuff. Often, one can keep an eye on the newspaper / its own website for previews of films occurring, and even keep an eye on theater listings for stuff being advertised as playing once or twice before regular release date. Many places will do a lot of giveaway tickets via online newspaper sites or the radio, though they're often not that hard to "win".

Keep an eye on a particular film's website / fansites for the most immediate info. You'll end up buying advance tickets as normal (at box office or online), but will also have to show up well in advance day of show to get a decent seat.

i have heard people just get tickets to screeners or win screener tickets from friends. where can i find these "friends" ;)

At one point, you were able to find screener passes in the Village Voice or Time NY quite often in NYC. Not sure if those publications still do. I also got some by running into radio station giveaways while walking in Manhattan.

Trust me when I say you're not missing much. These so called screeners are not the same ones that are populated with stars. You usually get to see the movie a day or two before the movie is released. The purpose is to just try to get the word out before the movie is actually released. Plus, you usually have to wait a couple of hours on line to get the passes. And don't forget that you actually have to wait at the theater for another couple of hours to get in as well, which you have to get early to.

Only two I've been to that actually had notable people at the screening were Robin Hood: Men in Tights and Half Baked. In the latter, some of the people from the movie were actually smoking pot and High Times was handed out to the crowd.

Well there are a 2 ways (which are the main ways anyway)..

For exmaple my local cinema which is a 11 screen UCI Cinema has offers every now and then to see films and give feedback. I saw The Fast and The Furious about 9 months before it was out. It was totally free and we had to fill in a questionaire after about what we liked and didnt like, etc. It was a different edit to the final version (about 20 minutes extra IIRC).

Screeners (on DVD) are given to the main cast, directors, etc and sometimes get stolen or copied (DHL and Securicor, etc ;) )

This is about it really. Try ringing up a few cinemas and asking if they do what my cinema does every now and then.

EDIT: Just thought I should mention things like what I had for TFATF doesnt happen for BIG files like The Matrix, etc. It is more for films that they think will be a hit but are not 100% about so want to know if it should be a "stright to video" release or not. For example the film "Driven" with Sly Stalone was advertised in the Cinema, etc but had bad pre-release feedback and was released "straight to video".

Perhaps OrangeSoul is talking about the preview with regard to reviews? You know the ones that the movie executives use to gage how good or bad the movie will do?

Blade Runner was one screened. The audience didn't like the ending. And voila! New ending was added.

Clerks was another one of these that was change due to screeners comments.
