make a shortcut for the dial-up thingy. (go to the network connections, and drag it to the startup folder. it will ask to make the shortcut. say yes)

open up the properties and tell it to dial automatically (not sure of the wording).

didn't work, created shortcut, slapped it into the startup directory for my user, didn't work. default user, didn't work. and all users, didn't work. :/

thanx anyway, anyone else with ideas?

For some reason that shortcut doesn't work for some people. Must be a bug in XP. I think that's the only way you can do it, if I remember another way I'll post it ;)

Yeah the shortcut never seems to work under XP (except I have it working for some ungodly reason)

What you can do (and you'll need to look around for the code) is create a wsh script to create your RAS connection.

I know it can be done as I have done it, but can't recall how!

First let me ask a) why, and b) it can't be that important, else you would have broadband.

a) because i want it to connect to the internet on startup b) it is broadband, its an adsl modem, xp sees it as a dial up adaptor

I have an alcatel speed-tocuh ADSL modem, and have created the dial-up account myself (not using any dialer software).

I create a shortcut to this in my startup and it works. This seems to be the case only for some users :(

As I suggested, create your WSH script, this should work!

create a shortcut, put it in the startup folder in the start menu, make sure you change the properties of the connection so under the "options" tab the only thing out the for check boxes that is ticked is "display progress while connecting", unless u dont wanna see that so in that case just untick them all!!!!

nice info, except, that is what has already been suggested and that i've tried to do.

njlouch, thanx. i'll have to google up on windows scripting host.

no i'm sticking it in the bin! Of course I am!!! bloody hell read my second post!!! i know where the startup folder(s) is/are too. i've been using pc's since dos3.0. i just need an quick easy way to dial on startup.

if i can't find a way i'll download some proggy.

just thought someone might have a surefire way to do it without need of external programs. as windows will auto start a network connection, but no option to start a dial up.

You've been using PC's since DOS 3.0 (3.3 more likely---3.0 wasn't a prominent release) and you didn't think of creating a shortcut and putting it in your Startup folder?

I doubt that.

oops dos 5.0. doh!

i actually did try to link the shortcut in task scheduler once, and that never worked either. tried slapping in the registry, again couldn't get it to work. i always plain forget to use the startup folder.

doubt it all you want

The code being pushed around has to do with RASDIAL. You can find much more information abotu this in

help and support center in Windows XP or go to MSDN.

Couldn't you do the real simple thing of having a shortcut to a website in the start-up folder? (just make sure dial-up is set on auto-connect, possible cheap solution ;) )
