VPN setup

Recommended Posts

under your iis and email server settings it asks which ip's you would like to use. by default all available ip's is picked. it also does this for dns, dhcp, wins, etc. change them to your original nic and your rras to the second nic.

Is it possible to set up a VPN with a single network card on XP Pro, so that I can connect to the server remotely via the cable internet connection, and be able to browse the internal network?

Or would I need two cards to set this up?

Are there any similar instructions for setting it up in XP Pro?

XPMagic: Yes it is possible to set it up on XP with one NIC, and Yes YOU would be able to browse the local network. The downfall to doing it on XP is only one person can be connected at one time. You will need to Start --> Connect To --> Show All Connections then on the top left hand corner click on "Create A New Connection". Follow that wizard all the way through, and then you have to make sure you Forward port TCP1723 on your router to your local computer's IP. You should be all set. If you need further instruction, check this article on setting up Windows XP Incomming Connections.

UnaBonger: You dont NEED two NIC's to run RRAS. Like I said, I am running it on one nic here without any problems. I am not sure if setting up two nics will fix your VPN problem or not. If it does, can you post back to let us know how it works?

You don't need two NIC's to configure a virtual IP

No, but if he is using the same server as his mail and iis server, it may cause problems with his users access other services.
