MistaT40
I have a problem........i have bulletproof ftp server running on WinXP with the firewall enabled but no one can access it when the firewall is enabled. How do I configure the WinXP firewall to allow ppl to access my server? Some ppl are telling me to open a port e.g. 21 so that ppl can access my server but how do u do that? There is no option I can see that allows me to open certain ports in WinXP's firewall... Please help me OUT!!! THANX
Blahsted
First off, take off firewall with winxp since if your running a firewall it will screw everything up. Also if your running a ftp and want people to be able to use passive to logon to the ftp it wont work since they wont be using port 21, forgot the exact port but its not 21. Also are you running on a router? or just plain broadband with winxp firewall?
MistaT40
im running on just broadband with WinXP firewall. So what do u suggest I should do then? And u are suggesting to turn off the firewall? Is there no other way around where I can still use the firewall (software) and still have a ftp server? Blahsted
I run xp and have a ftp I never use firewall software or the xp crap one, whats really the point of it if your a home user. Anyways if you wanna have a firewall up even thou theres not really a point to one download something like zonealarm and use that over xp's its more customizeable and can prolly have a ftp running still (atleast I think). Hope that helped :)

Blahsted
Id say try out zone alarm then if you think they will actually try and do something to you. Which if they arent little punk kids and do know how to do things could possibly do them with a firewall up but thats another story. Anyways gluck with it :)

d0tn3t
Actually, you can go to the page where you can turn the firewall off and on, and towards the bottom, there should be a button called 'configure' or something similar. In there, you can tick the services you are running, that you want people to access.
Krome
I think Microsoft come out with a fix once on their firewall thingy... and I never get my other service to work without turning the firewall off... but after I apply the fix, I try to turn the firewall back on, it works so great... so this must be the fix you need for your firewall... and yes there's a way you can set your firewall to allow a certain port... Network Connection and then go to Advanced or something... My WinXP change almost everything because it's not used as a standalone system... it's part of a domain controller and everything is different than a normal WinXP spec... Jon
The XP firewall is pretty tough to configure, and zonealarm is crap. I'd suggest using Tiny Personal Firewall (they are PERSONAL firewalls. You cant even compaire them to real firewalls (stateful inspection etc)). You will need ports 21 and 20 open for ftp (session and data).
