XP install and Geforce 3 Problems

Recommended Posts

well i have a ASUS GeForce 3 Ti 200, and when i try to do anything involving Windows XP CD and booting from the cdrom with it, it always gets into the windows xp setup then before i can select what i want to do wether reinstall or clean install my comp locks up for about 5 minutes and then a BSOD comes up with a 0x0 some other stuff... error. so i have to shut down and put in a crap vid card for it to work. any ideas ?

yeah, it probaby is his graphix card. i have an nvidia GForce MX 400...windows XP isn't even arsed enough to let me know theres an error. it just sits there locked up until i reboot. i know it's my vid card because everytime i want to reinstall windows xp i have to put in my ATI to make it get into the setup.

yup, its your grafx, i had the same problem, but i bought an Abit Siloru with the nvidia chipset, instead of my old one because xp has the drivers for it :) now it installs, without having 2 put a dif graphics card in :)

If you really like your card - you could always try to borrow someone else's card for the installation of WinXP, and when it's installed correctly - insert your card in, and see if that works.

I mean, it is possible that it'll work because WinXP has other hardware problems, such as the "all famous" Athlon chips FSB. When you lower the Front Side Bus to install WinXP then it installs perfectly without a glitch, and then increase the FSB to normal (133MHz/266MHz) once WinXP's installed and it'll work.

Hope this helps :rambo:

I have a geforce three and there should be no problems. Win XP has drivers for all nvidia cards.

The stop mesage is really important. Write down what it is. For example I had one recently 0x00000007E. Once you have the stop message go to www.microsoft.com and from the options on the top right choose support then knowledge base. Then select windows xp as the operating system and type in stop 00000007E and it will actually tell you what Win xp is having problems with and a possible solution.

As said above get another video card. But I do doubt it is the vidio card problem.

Also make sure you have pulled all other cards out of the system and have only the Video and Hard disk and Ram and thats it.

Also set all bios settings to defaults. If you have been playing with overclocking memory settings. Also make sure you system has the latest bios flashed.

THE HINT ABOVE IS REALLY IMPORTANT. TRY LOWERING YOUR FSB FROM 133 TO 100 JUST UNTIL XP IS INSTALLED.

Let us know how you got on.

Pottsy
