DocM
http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/169903-platinum-dunes-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-to-feature-alien-origin Just announced for a Christmas Day, 2013 release last week, Platinum Dunes' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set to feature a very non-traditional origin for its reptilian heroes. In fact, producer Michael Bay hints that the turtles may not be mutants at all.Word arrives via Stuff We Like and a video of Bay speaking at last week's Nickelodeon Upfront in New York where he states: "When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable." To be directed by Jonathan Liebesman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will feature a script from Josh Appelbaum, Andrew Nemec, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and John Fusco. The franchise, which began as a black and white comic book series in 1984, rose to tremendous popularity when it became an animated series in 1987. Following the first live-action film in 1990, the series spawned two live-action sequels, a live-action television series, a second animated series and a CGI feature film. Max Norris
"These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable." And another childhood memory destroyed. I'm sorry, but "Teenage Space Alien Lovable Ninja Turtles" just doesn't quite have the same ring to it. Lingwo
So this isn't going to be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles then. Michael Bay has basically given the middle finger to Turtles fans. New comers might like it as they will know no better. You can tweak it a bit, new story, enemies etc but to change the main characters completely! idiots. Turtles, Thundercats and Ghostbusters was my childhood. You don't mess with those shows

DirtyLarry Veteran Posted March 19, 2012 Veteran Share Posted March 19, 2012 Am I the only person that thinks his quote is being taken out of context? And this website is twisting his words to make it seem like he said something he actually never said? Here is the whole quote... "When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable." So what I believe he is saying, is they are going to be presented in such a realistic way (great CGI FTW) that little kids are going to think that they could possible exist, like an alien race for example. So yeah, I am not a big fan of Mr Bay, but I really do not think he is so utterly stupid and/or arrogant that he would change their origins completely. They are mutant ninja turtles. This site wanted some hits and took his quote and made it fit their article for said hits. And I am an old school turtles fan. Still own all of the original black and white Mirage comics. So as a fan, I think their more popular incarnations over the years have pretty much disgraced their name since the very beginning. So cannot say I have much faith in anything that contains them. Xenomorph
I love this. See, you take the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but take away that whole "mutant ninja turtle" part, and just make them Teenage Aliens. Now add pointless explosions and lots and LOTS of fart jokes. PERFECT.
Dot Matrix
I take it everything they look at is going to curiously blow up?
OOOOOOOO
Erm ... how odd. Why would they change it that massively ? It's not some underground cult thing. The Turtles was HUGE ... literally MONSTROUSLY huge. You can't just go ahead and change the whole concept when for decades it's been a certain way. Hell, a few changes here and there, sure ... whatever ... but completely re-writing the whole concept? Just create a new movie franchise instead! Razorwing
No.No.No. TMNT are not aliens. I can accept Transformers being aliens but not TMNT. NO. NO. NO. There are no turtles from space, please and thank you very much. They are mutants not Aliens. UGH.

Vice
The problem was, Michael wanted to put a lot of explosions in the movie and it quickly became apparent that explosions in a sewer would cause immense amount of damage in such an enclosed space and the pressure from the blast would kill everyone. So he decided instead of using mutant turtles in a sewer he'd make the movie about some black cops who consider themselves quite the bad boys. Welcome to Teenage Black Ninja Cops. I agree. It definitely seems unlikely that the company that owns Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would sign off on such a large, fundamental change of their property. It has to be a misunderstanding.
