Frank
have you tried using the built in ICF for Windows XP?

RaisinCain
XP's firewall is just as good as any other. If you've got broadband (which I am assuming you do), get a router with NAT then you don't need a firewall (or you can run XP's built in firewall in conjunction with the router but I think it's overkill). Jon
You've probably had problems because you don't know what you're doing (harsh but likely to be true). I've not found a PF that doesnt work with ICS, its just a matter of correct configuration (trusted addresses for example).
Ritalin
Just wondering, how do you activate the windows xp firewall?
QuarterSwede
Network Connections -> Local Area Connections -> right click -> Properties -> Advanced tab -> tick the box and your set.
OPaul
There's nothing wrong with ICF, it blocks traffic incoming just fine. It's just the stupid people that download trojans and need to block their outgoing traffic that have the problems.
AxelStone
Blackice, www.networkice.com is a nice SIMPLE firewall/intrusion detection software. I know its not the most complete, but its easy and cheap. Example would be the RPC Exploit, unconfigured with just "cautious" selected it kept my parents machines from getting exploited. McAffee firewall is supposivly the best home user firewall, I find it confuses most people. Hey, just suggestions.
Jon
McAfee DesktopFirewall 8 is lovely, I'm working on a project to deploy it to all of our remote users via ePO atm, its a lovely firewall to configure. Zonelabs central server, Integrety, is a piece of sh*t to configure, absolutely horrible!!
QuarterSwede
Personally I use Kerio because I find it works better then the rest in it's weight size (very lite) and it's free. Not sure if it works with ICS though. Doesn't hurt to try right?
MitchShrader
I've been happy with Sygate Pro for 2 years, look at their product line. I'd say Kerio, Sygate, or Outpost for free products, and i despise ZA, Norton, & the included XP firewall. Just my 2cents worth..
