ANOKA, Minn., March 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --?ATK (NYSE:?ATK) announced that it is being awarded an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) agreement from the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (DHS, ICE) for .40 caliber ammunition. This contract features a base of 12 months, includes four option years, and will have a maximum volume of 450 million rounds. ATK was the incumbent and won the contract with its HST bullet, which has proven itself in the field. The special hollow point effectively passes through a variety of barriers and holds its jacket in the toughest conditions. HST is engineered for 100-percent weight retention, limits collateral damage, and avoids over-penetration. "We are proud to extend our track record as the prime supplier of .40 caliber duty ammunition for DHS, ICE," said Ron Johnson, President of ATK's Security and Sporting group. ?"The HST is a proven design that will continue to serve those who keep our borders safe." Gerowen Posted April 9, 2012 Share Posted April 9, 2012 This is good news for those of us who use .40 caliber for our self defense round. This will make it more popular, and therefore more common, and therefore cheaper. Started using Federal ammunition for most of my guns, and I've been impressed with the quality of their products. They even sell metal cases of 5.56mm green tip NATO rounds in metal cases of 420 rounds on 10 round stripper clips with speed loaders for $150-$200, which makes buying in mass for my AR easy and affordable. DocM Posted April 9, 2012 Author Share Posted April 9, 2012 I use Federal HST's for defense and Federal Champion FMJ's for target, save for the Ruger LCP .380 because they only make .380 in Hydra-Shok - not enough energy for HST bullets. The special 135g HST's (XM40HA) DHS uses for undercover in their HK P2000sk's and the Champions are both WalMart items in these parts. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
