Cannot Install Windows

Question

I'm working on a Toshiba Satellite L305-S5899. It was having a lot of problems like freezing constantly especially if no buttons were pressed.

I reformatted the HD and tried to install WIndows 7 (it had Vista previously). Everytime it would fail and I would get Error 0x80070570 during the 2d step of install at 50%. I tried installing Vista with the same error.

I replaced the HD (w/ a brand new one) and got the same error. The laptop has two sticks of memory (2GB) - I tried one by itself and then the other by itself but got the same error.

What should I do? Running Ubuntu on it currently b/c that's all that will install.

In the BIOS try switching between ACHI (if set) to IDE mode. or vice versa.

if you are using a disc or USB to install the software I would check the media and make sure it is not corrupted or bad.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using Windows 7 USB but it's the same USB I used before successfully so the media is fine. Plus I tried Vista which also gave the same error. For the BIOS, what exactly does switching b/w those modes do + why would it cause such an error? Thanks again.

i don't think that setting would mess with your install of windows 7.

it's mostly something you need to worry about with an older os like windows xp.(i think) as long as the installer can see the drive it should be okay.

i googled your error code and found this as the first result ... http://forums.bit-te...ad.php?t=177488

EASY SOLUTION:

I don't wait weekends for answers (nor do I usually need to call tech support). One thing we had noticed is that the repair console refused to lauch because it said there was an install in progress. But the support didn't pick up on this and it wasn't until Saturday morning I tried what turned out to be the easiest solution ever.

When you see the error "0x80070570 can't access files" on install click --> OK ---> you will be returned to the "Install Now" startup screen and - WITHOUT REBOOTING - just re-start the install.

Second time round it went smooth as clockwork and installed fine.

i've never run into this issue myself so i really don't have a solid solution. i would just try some of the fixes you can find on google with the code 0x80070570

or also try installing with dvd media instead of your USB stick.

Thanks man. I actually did google it and tried that very solution. The only other (strange) solution I found on google was to open the laptop and unplug the modem cable and then install. I don't want to mess around with the hardware that much though b/c that would involve opening up the whole computer (I can do things like replace HD and memory but that's about it). Could it be that a BIOS update is required? I'm thinking no b/c Vista was already installed and I when I tried Vista it also failed. I might try installing from DVD later although I don't know why that would work while USB fails?

yeah i'm not exactly sure why the dvd media would help either unless your usb copy is indeed corrupt or the laptop is just hating on usb during setup.

but computers are crazy and sometimes crazy things are the best solutions for getting them fixed.

it might be something else in the hardware but i would not reccomend opening up the laptop unless you're sure you know what you're doing.

best of luck.
