This issue occurs also on my laptop. Something went wrong with the latest Chrome update?

c3ntury
Seriously?? Your first post isn't making much sense. Perhaps if you do make it clearer and coherent, someone will be more obliged to respond to your post with helpful advice. Posting 'Seriously??' isn't helping your case much. c3ntury
I assume you don't use Chrome than? I use Chrome (beta channel) as my primary browser. If you looked carefully, you would notice the websites on the 'new tab' are actually for your most visited sites. If you want to add your own links to it, I'd suggest you look for an extension to do. I'm sure one or several exist.
+BudMan MVC Posted April 8, 2012 MVC Share Posted April 8, 2012 I use chrome now and then - and I have to agree your post is a bit confusing.. "all it does is open the website site in a new" new what? New window -- dragging what from where might also help? I am running 18.0.1025.151 m, which just checked says its up to date. And if I drag say youtube from the opening new tab window to new tab icon "grey little box" next the current tab im on - it opens it in a new tab just fine. edit: Just +c3ntury last - is that what you meant to say? If so that is not how I read your post at all. So what your asking is how to manually add sites to your home/new tab -- is this correct? If so don't believe that is possible without maybe some addon like speed dial for example
freak180
At First I was able to drag the icon from the addressbar. For example, the neowin icon appears in the address bar when you at neowin's website. I was able to drag that Icon to the newtab menu which chrome would pin in there. I can no longer do this anymore. But what happens now when I drag it to the new tab, it opens up that website instead of pinning it.
freak180
The first screen shot shows me adding pandora's website to the new tab menu. The Second screenshot displays Now when I try to do the same method it doesnt move the icons anymore just opens up that website. This infact use to work! I tried in on that yellow *testout* website before I updated chrome to 18.
+BudMan MVC Posted April 8, 2012 MVC Share Posted April 8, 2012 You must of been using a add on to do this -- I do believe that shows you your most visted sites.. You can not just drag sites there without an addon of some sort. Here this might help you http://www.tekgazet.com/customize-most-visited-sites-in-new-tab-in-google-chrome/soft/2025.html Customize Most Visited Sites in New Tab in Google Chrome If new site is makes your most visited list it would be added ;) Maybe that is what was happening before

I'm not crazy. This method use to work. I just added the testout website like a couple weeks before the update and it use to work fine. Most visit sites can be pin as well I know about doing it that way. But the method I mention above use to work for a fact. How else I added all those other sites? +BudMan MVC Posted April 8, 2012 MVC Share Posted April 8, 2012 What part do you not understand that what your talking about is not a feature? Did you read the article I posted. Here -- I have been to CNN exactly once - 2 seconds ago, and its added to my most visited! Most visited does have to mean you go there every 30 minutes of the day. Read the article I posted -- you can manipulate the list sure without any addon. But if you want to be able to have it just like you want, then your going to need an add on. Just use speed dial and your issue is gone.
night_stalker_z
From your screenshot, it looks like you already added Cinemassacre to the new tab page so you can't add it again. There seems to be a few problems adding sites from the same domain. @BudMan: that feature is built into Chrome. Click the Apps button at the bottom of the new tab page. +BudMan MVC Posted April 8, 2012 MVC Share Posted April 8, 2012 Where does it say you can add any site you want to your apps tab?? http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=95451 This article says you can ADD from the app store - says nothing of adding any site you want to this app list. If it's a feature -- point out its documentation please! I am not a huge chrome user, so maybe I am missing something?? But what he is asking for does not seem like a built in feature to me.. Simple google shows that -- did YOU read the article I linked? Fairly recent and clearly from that what he is asking for is NOT a feature built into chrome. +BudMan MVC Posted April 10, 2012 MVC Share Posted April 10, 2012 I was right up front that I am not a big chrome user -- The documentation says nothing about adding sites. So maybe you should bitch to google about their documentation. You sure she is not dragging a site that is part of the app store? Please point out the documentation of the product that says it does what you claim it does. I can not find it - but what I can find is people complaining about the same thing as you. So doesn't seem like it ever was a feature - if it was, seems to be undocumented and if your correct in saying that it worked on 17 and not on 18 it sure did not last long. If it was part of the application -- WTF would you have need of the addon for.. Clearly there was a NEED because of lack of feature or the addon would never have been created. The existence of the addon seems to point to no feature filling that need. edit: from this http://www.howtogeek.com/99159/add-your-favorite-websites-to-the-web-apps-section-in-google-chromes-new-tab-page/ Says you can drag sites from your MOST VISITED to APPS -- no icon, which is exactly what yours looked like. So yeah ok, get it on your most visted tab.. Like I went over already, and then you can drag it to apps tab. This is still not a feature like you say it is. Tested and confirmed working on latest Chrome Dev Build. It crashed my chrome completely first try, relaunched tried again and working properly. Can't drag and drop a tab (to be expected) However dragging and droping bookmarks is working fine.
Ian Beveridge
@freak180 - Just wanted to say you're not going mad. I noticed this problem this morning. I used to be able to drag URLs from the address bar into a new tab page and it'd create a shortcut to the site in along with my apps. From Chrome 18, this seems to have been broken or removed. Very, very annoying. I don't really want to use a new tab extension.

avatar7
I have the same issue and I found this topic while searching for a solution. To all who claim this is not a Chrome feature, it sure is and it's been for years. It has nothing to do with the Most Visited tab, it's a separate new tab you open and drag websites to create bookmarks for them. I've been able to use it regularly until recently and it has worked just fine. Now instead of adding a bookmark, it just opens the website. I really hope it's just a temporary bug, otherwise the new tab loses its whole purpose.
