Rathamon
my flatmate plans to use XboX live over a cable connection we are soon to get installed , I've heard that it works fine with NAT but is this completely issueless to setup? im more worried about things like dynamic port allocations and security considerations but I should have a decent amount of flexibiility in the setup since I plan on running the NAT from an old PC running debian
MxxCon
i don't have xbox so here is my guess.. the only type of issue i can forsee is if you will want to host games on your xbox..but that's pretty easy to resolve with port mapping.
liar2
uhh, all you have to do is plug it into the router. there's no configuration needed. it should autodetect DNS settings and such, nab an IP, and it's good to go. Hosting games isn't an issue either. So there's no worries.

Frank
Rathamon: Why not? DHCP kicks arse. It makes it A LOT easier to manage (at least with multiple pc's). You can always use static, just make sure you use a static IP that is out of the DHCP range (IE: DHCP uses addresses 192.168.0.10 - 192.168.0.20 : Static IP's can be 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.9). MxxCon
i'm sure you can set static ip in the xbox instead of dhcp. i don't see how "Hosting games isn't an issue either." can be true. how can you host a game behind a firewall/router unless you open required ports? and i'm talking about hosting a game on your own connection. not creating a game on their servers. liar2
you can input an IP into your xbox, yes. what's wrong with DHCP though? it makes things so much easier to manage. and when you host a game, it usually is running on your own connection. i've done it behind my router several times without a problem. honestly man, just use DHCP and make things that much easier.
