TheGrizah
I saw Kill Bill opening night, it is one of the coolest movies I have ever seen. I really loved it. I liked how it was done. Quentin Terintino is a badass director, and I can't wait to see the next volume of kill bill. I also loved the soundtrack and I have bought it. whipper25
just for the record, kurosawa didn't really influence tarantino to do a movie such as kill bill...but, old school, grindhouse, shaolin, martial arts films..in an interview he made it a point that his samurai 'theme' was not influenced by kurosawa... and yes, scorcese is the man
mcwaite
Fincher started that long ago....its nothing new. That doesn't mean it's not good, does it? To each his own I guess.

It kicked ass plain and simple, if you did not like it no worries. I can't wait for The Last Samurai.
zerroeffect
You know, it's great to point out where this or that came from or how much QT "ripped off" other directors or styles, but when it comes down to it, what hasn't been done in movies? Even the Matrix Reloaded went to far and re-hashed everything with more of it. Boring. QT broke a lot of ground himself with Pulp Fiction. He has style and he's a wicked writer and from what he said, the second Kill Bill will have mostly dialog. I guess he could have made a mainstream whatever is popular in Hollywood right now movie, but he did his own thing and accomplished his goal and it's respectable. He payed homage to the grind house movies that he loves and it shows. It was fun, the soundtrack was perfect and Uma kicked a**! My favorite part was the mace fight. That was pretty brutal. :pinch: This was a great first half of an even better movie. I didn't want it to end at all and would have definetly stayed through 4 hours. :D The Last Samurai looks cool, too. P.s. You want re-hash and unoriginal content, go watch House of a 1000 corpses. :x Lame movie with NO originality.

altezza Veteran Posted October 26, 2003 Veteran Share Posted October 26, 2003 I just gone back seeing Kill Bill. I must say this movie is quite alright but if Tarantino wouldn't shown the anime part the movie could've been better. I didn't expect so many blood and so sadistic yet graphical plus high violence, but that was quite intense. To those who can't stand high violence and so sadistic scenes, well definitely this movie is not for weak hearted. Anyway I can't wait for the second half and the final outcome of the "The Bride" :)

unique
Kurosawa has influenced some of the greatest directors of our time. I suggest seeing more of his work. As far as your comment goes in regards to Rash?mon, well I guess you are not familiar with cinimatic history, and the effect not only that movie had with some of his directing (shots that never have been done) but all of his work for that matter. Read up on him, and you will see how many people in the industry today try to mimic his style into there own. And no Fincher did not make it trendy. Scorsese on the other hand did. If your going to give credit give it to the person who started it all. Yeah, I have studied him...he is over-rated...somewhat like QT. And he has influence directors....I believe its Spielberg who watches Rash?mon before he heads off the shoot a film. He loves him. Its just that other directors have had more influence on a wider group of directors. Scorsese may have used the effect, but today it is trendy due to fincher's use of it in Fight Club and Panic Room. With the use of computer generated graphics and such. Anyways, again this is your opinion versus mine. No matter, Kill Bill sucked in my opinion, but Mystic River kicked ROYAL ARSE!!!:woot:t:
AgEnTsMiTh
You must be young, because your reference to Fincher, who is a good director in his own right, but could be stated as over rated himself for HIS use of other directors work. I like him, don't get me wrong. Also, you have seen 1 Kurosawa film and come to the conclusion that he is overrated? PLEASE!! I stop there, you have shown your lack of understanding of film history and the effect he had on Directors. TO THIS DAY!! Ive seen almost all his work, I have a large library of it on DVD, and you are completely wrong about him being overrated. Its a fact that he is one of the eliete. Mystic River looks outstanding, I have not had a chance to get out and see it just yet. But is it as powerfull as many have been saying? I can't agree with alot of what you said, but I have read many things on Kurosawa and feel he is just overrated. Unfortunately I am not young, but rather have finished a degree in film. Now, I never said Fincher was the cat's ass, simply that in modern ciniema he has made the style popular. Everyone I know references him when thinking of that type of shots. If you feel he is not overrated then that is wonderful (again opinions) I have seen many clips from other films he has done and just don't find him as powerful as many feel. (including yourself). And as far as directors using styles from other directors it is simply the way things go. It is much more difficult to create your own style nowadays. QT had that going for him pre-kill bill, but unfortunately he has lost the flair in this film. And Kurosawa is simply one of the best asian directors yes...as seen in north american cinema. I am sure there are many others just as good if not better; unheard of simply due to overshadowing. Unforunately we get "ACTION" god directors like John 'slowmotion' Woo, who IS in fact more overrated then a turkey dinner. Mystic River is fantastic....go see it as soon as your time allows it.
Jaz
it is an amazing film, as simple as that. to the person who said they'd seen Battle Royale 2, youre mistaken as filming hasn't finished, and is due for 2004 i believe. for the person saying that the samurai sword on the plane is absurbd, maybe in this post 9/11 world, but before then it was perfectly acceptable in Japan. markus
I think Kill Bill is simply great. It is very artistic its simple well done. For those who would appreciate the artistic side of the movie probably its just crap and too violent. I give it two thumbs up. Cant wait to see Volume 2.
