star wars bombshell?

In other Star Wars-related news, we've heard that the Rogue Squadron trilogy of games (Rogue Squadron (N64), Rogue Leader (GCN), Rebel Strike (GCN)) is making its way to the 'Box in late 2004 to coincide with the DVD release of the first three movies (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi). Referred to internally as "Rebel X," rumor has it that the three titles will be bundled together for one supreme Star Wars package.

that's alot to take in and could be a BIG BIG rumor. i haven't heard nothing about the first movies being released anytime soon, but if all 3 of these games came to the box, "optimized" for play on it, that would be major indeed.

Nahhh...

Julian Eggebrechet has said the rumor is wrong and that they only support 1 system at a time, which is currently GC right now as they prefer over the other two platforms. He says it will continue to be that way if it sells fine enough for them. Which it is with all the price cuts and thinks it will go on to have a good holiday. He said we'll see how christmas goes to see if Factor 5 will continue support

If you don't know, Julian is the head of Factor5, here's his original post (its in german) http://www.maniac.de/forum/pxmboard.php?mo...=1&msgid=530728

Even if it happens, bombshell? The newest game would be a year old port by the time it came out.

That and I don't exactly believe this rumor to be true, for a multitude of reasons.

IGN Xbox has a terrible record at getting rumors right, the Rare leaving Nintnedo rumor was IGN Cube.

Factor 5 has gone on record MANY times saying that porting Rogue Leader, and now to an even greater extent Rebel Strike, to any other platform would be harder than creating a new game - a lot harder - the games are programmed to the hardware that heavily.

Aren't the EP IV-VI DVDs coming in 2005, not 2004?

Now to top it all off boobless shows us a forum that Julian posts at. Denis Dyack did the same a about a year ago, there were rumors that Silicon Knights would be leaving Nintendo, and Denis posted a series of messages on IGN's boards killing those off.

I'll be keeping a link to that forum, I always like seeing info from developers like this - even if it is in a language I have to Babelfish to halfway understand :)

yeah i'd say it would be that big. personally i trust ignxbox, as they all use very similar if not the same sources, but of courses worse rumors have been reported that have never happened. i think it would be big because it would indicate a lack of faith in the Nintendo system. every console has their own exclusive star wars game and rogue squadron has always been Nintendo's and you'd think the sales were great, but if this happens that would be saying that the sales didn't meet their expectations and instead of re-releasing a mega dvd disk on the cube they would release it on the xbox.

like i said, i'd consider it a big rumor, but if it happens it would be something. people didn't believe last year when they said vice city would come to xbox, see how they got around that contract with Sony, so anything is possible.

The newest game would be a year old port by the time it came out.

that doesn't matter to much, as long as people could believe it's coming out eventually to another system, maybe it would hold off their purchase of a cube to get rebel strike, but we can't knock ports to much, let's look at vice city, 1 year old. metal gear on the cube  , RE??, so we can't complain about the age of the port too much. i know for a fact that there are people who really liked how rogue squadron looked/played etc, but didn't want to get a cube just for it.

but like you said the rumor could be complete bs cause i've never heard anything about the original trigology coming out on dvd next year but in 2005-2006.

RE and Metal Gear aren't ports, if you want to spilt hairs :p

zero may not be a port, but 2 is. the remake of 1 might as well be one. metal gear from everything i've heard is a remake of the first one on playstation. improved visuals and audio? yes, new storyline? no, new plot? no, same gameplay? yes.

Metal gear definately isn't an original like metal gear solid 3 will be.

there is a huge difference between porting a game and remaking it. Mac', ive come to the conclusion that you dont really like the gc :p , you would give anything to prove that nintendo are going down, wouldnt you? but rumors don't prove anything. your enthusiasm isn't for the xbox getting star wars games, it is in hopes that one of nintendo's exclusives isn't so exclusive.
