Hard Drive performance tools?

Question

Hey All,

I needed to get some more space on my laptop and decided to replace the 5400rpm 250GB SATA Drive with a 500GB MomentusXT (Apparently its got SSD tachnology built onto a normal 2.5" HDD)

Seeing as i havent formatted my old drive yet, im interested in seeing how much better performance im getting with the new drive compared with the old one.

Can anyone suggest any good tools? I dont really know what im looking for here

Cheers!

Does running the tests on an SSD degrade it in any way?

Not unless you do it every minute of every day for the next few years.

Dont think you will see any difference between the 2 drives on standard testing onless you do it load of times.

From their website.

Adaptive Memory technology is a self-learning algorithm that delivers SSD-like response from your most frequently used applications and files.

By selectively tackling data that is frequently used and time-consuming to fetch, the Momentus XT drive will copy this data into the flash and maintain the relevancy. You get the instant response experience you've been searching for.

So it needs to 'learn' what you use the most before you see any improvements.

Even though its got to learn what programs i use the most to give me its best performance, I did do an initial HDD Test and am happy with the results so far...

The MomentusXD is using SATA 3, where as your laptop will probably be SATA2. You won't get the full 300mb/s with your laptop, but 100mb/s is pretty tidy compared to 63mb/s.

Yea to tell you the truth im not one to worry about the performance to much anyways, i needed a new hard drive and these Momentus drives were on offer by our supplier and cost the same as a standard drive :o
