Usenet Forum

Recommended Posts

Hey, I am wondering if anyone knows of a good forum out there for Usenet users.

A place I can talk about Usenet, providers etc...

What do you want to ask about Usenet? You might find a good number of UseNet users here, such as myself.

I have been using AstraWeb for years. Good servers and fast connection.

Long time usenet user as well. I just want a community that I can talk to and ask questions if needed. Lots of places I talk on don't allow certain questions.

Not a provider which was listed.

How do you not.

I want a forum like Neowin, that is usenet based only. Asking if anyone knows of any.

Since I do not want to risk violating any rules here by linking to them, I sent you a private message with some to get you started.

Oh plus I will add, feel free to message me about any usenet questions you have. Been using it for many years and different providers. I find it very useful.

Usenet is more a 'File Transfer' service these days compared with the 'Forum' it was in the 80s and 90s.

Again, not looking for a usenet service/download site. So how they used to be forums is not what I am looking for.

I don't understand why it's hard to understand.

And thanks Holo for the links.

I have read "Usenet" name many times on Internet, but know nothing about it. Would love to know more and getting started.

Usenet is basically the Neowin of the 80s and 90s. However, people eventually began converting binaries to text and uploading them to Usenet, it soon became apparent Usenet was an exceptionally fast way to transfer huge amounts of data easily. It's mainly a piracy hub this days, but it also has lots of unique content that you just can't find anywhere else on the Web.

Discussions and Files - Usenet.

It's not against the rules to discuss technology, it's against the rules to discuss ways of using it for Piracy. There are tons of Usenet providers out there, Giganews, Usenext, Astraweb to name a few. Personally, I 'browse' usenet with Unison on my Mac, but download content from it, using SabNZBd. Lots of discussion in this thread: https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1070671-best-usenet-client/

Can't tell you where to find files (binaries), however. Usenet is for the most part a paid service. However some ISP's do offer their own. I personally use Astraweb, it's 15$ a month, but unlimited downloads, with unlimited download speed (so it max's my internet connection).

Google Groups is Usenet, but heavily filtered. - None of the fun groups are in there.

I have been using Usenet for years now. I use Sabnzbd to download and for files I use Newzbin or NZBMatrix, but recently found DOGnzb which is awesome.

Technically Google Groups is Usenet, but in terms of what people use Usenet for these days, I call Google Groups more a forum then Usenet, just like Neowin is a forum. But technically that would be wrong.
