dudley
couldn't find a reference to this - i've got my laptop connected to my desktop; workgroup is set up, the computers 'see' each other, and the desktop (win-xp) can access the laptop (win-2k), but the laptop cannot access the desktop. error message comes up 'access is denied' - i have a share set up on the desktop, so i don't know what is preventing this. is there a service that controls this? how do i enable access? Frank
dudley: Have you enabled the guest account? What permissions are set up (both shared permissions and file permissions) on the share?
bud1979
the first thing i would ask is, are both accounts the same user name and password? I had this issue where the 2k box could not access the xp box unless the user account had the same name and pw on both boxes. NOT the best solution for security reasons but, if you were paranoid on security you wouldn't be using windows :D J/K no bashing intended
Garry
Is it XP Home or XP Pro?

Viserov
I had the same problem... Go to: Admininstrator Tools -> Local Security Settings -> Local Policies -> User Rights Assignment -> Delete Guest or Everyone from Deny access to this computer from the network
Viserov
By the way, do that for the computer sharing the file ;)
Garry
That fix is only supposed to work on XP Pro, so if you don't see it, that's why. :)

dudley
got it - make sure to go to the SECURITY tab and not just the SHARE tab, and check 'write' permission
