Extending my Wireless Range

Recommended Posts

I've read and even seen this antenna thing that amplifies or extends the network range for WiFi. Reading, I've seen all kinds of things, but in my school's journalism lab, they have a box with 2 wireless cards connected in it and then a cord connect to something that pops out of one of the cards to connect to the atenna. Can anyone either tell me how this works, or send links to faq/manuals that can teach me how to set this up so that I can consider if its worth doing it at home.

Thx =D

yes what you can do is buy wireless access point remove the existing antena and attach a cable attaching to a higher gain antena either inside or out this will increase the range d-link all the stuff you need just vist there site and take a look around.

note though, not all wireless routers have removable antenna, well, at least not the ones for home use. I'm sure the ones that are build for corporate uses (hundreds of users) do, but of course that will cost you more $$$.

I use this card, it's a great antenna ans I can popit back in to the laptop when the laptop is not in use. IT's far better than all those others out there that have something stilling out a mile!

from a quick glance, you'll probably need the cable and the extra omni-directional antenna, the higher you mount it the better the reception.
