[vista] how to locate the key in the registry?

Question

I need to locate a friends key in his registry because the wonderful genuine sticker seems to rub off of every machine for vista and the hard drive is going out hard. I keep hearing well download magical jelly bean. I want to locate it manually. Please help! :) And yes I know it's encrypted in the registry, I just want that encrypted form.

EDIT: I have the key now in it's encrypted form, is there a known method to decrypt it like what jelly bean does?

well we can't boot into the computer we have it hooked up (the hard drive) to the server via a usb adapter. I am making this too hard though I'm going to copy the values from the registry (I backed the registry files up) and then paste them once we get the new hard drive installed.

You can use Jelly Bean to load a registry hive

--

Load Hive option - allows you to load the registry hive of another Windows installation. To use, put the hard drive in a working machine (must also be Windows 2000, XP, Vista or Windows 7) or use Windows PE (not tested, should work) and click Load Hive. Then point it to the dead Windows install. If you're using Windows Vista, Administrator rights are required for this feature. You may have to right click on the Keyfinder and run as Administrator.

I use a program called ProduKey

If its a preinstalled OS from the manufacturer it may not work to well, as then the key in the OS would be different from the sticker as they used installs cloned from a master
