Movies with Artificial Intelligence

Recommended Posts

For our IPT assignment I need to write a paper on issues in a movie that is based around AI. Some of the movies that the whole class has chosen are: AI, Terminator series and Matrix series. Because if I write a paper with any of the movies, it will be compared to the others which will make mine look very bad and get a bad mark.

I need help from you guys with naming a few movies off the top of your head that are based around AI.

Blade Runner

War Games

Tron

2001: A Space Odyssey

The Thirteenth Floor

Addendum: Blade Runner and War Games probably have some of the most significant "big picture" issues, though Thirteenth Floor has potential.

Personally, I'd be all over Blade Runner if you're up to the task. Really dwarfs things like Matrix and Terminator if you want more substance to work with.

Thanks, that helped qute a bit. I was actually trying to find some older movies with a very 'imaginative' view on the future and AI. I might rent out War Games from the vid shop tomorrow and have a look.

War Games would certainly have potential, and might be relatively clear to write up depending on how long something needs to be.

I really wouldn't skip over Blade Runner, though, if you've never seen it. There's a lot more "imaginative" to it than War Games. Both are classics. Blade Runner has 8.2 at imdb.com while War Games has 6.9. There are a lot of *great* issues clearly broached by Blade Runner. If you want a potentially great paper, I would recommend at least viewing it as well as War Games before making a choice.

Well I am going to ask the Teacher tomorrow what one out of these three would be the best (I have seen none of them)

The 13th Floor

Blade Runner

War Games

If your instructor's familiar with them, I'd expect War Games and Blade Runner will be met with enthusiasm, with Blade Runner being your biggest potential "intellectual challenge". Thirteenth Floor isn't too widely known (and *can* be harder to find), though would still have marked possibilities, albeit with a more modern perspective and its own challenges, perhaps even more complex ones.

Be curious to know your instructor's thoughts. If they're serious about stuff (and depending on paper length requirements), any of these should get them excited. G'luck :)
