Inertia
if i were you i would put a network card in each machine and use a crossover cat5 cable , they may even already have network cards in them, the newer one may have an onboard network interface. Once you have doen this you have to lower all security on the XP machien to allow the 98 one to view its files. To share the internet from the XP one simply set up Internet connection sharing, then o nthe 98 machine set the IP address to 192.168.0.2 , subnet 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.0.1 and primary DNS server as 192.168.0.1 then you will be away :D

Sub
Just go into the Network Connection on XP and enable Internet connection sharing. You must have 2 network cards for this to work. One network card will have the broadband, and the other network card will be connected to a hub. You either need a hub, ora crossover cable, in which case you wont need a hub.. After that, make sure both machines IP's are in the same subnet, and make the gateway on the 98 machine your windows xp ip.
