My daughter somehow created a gmail account even though she is not old enough, in the process of our discovery we see a message from unet.com stating welcome to unet. I go to the site, and all that is there is a login screen. Does anyone know what this site is?

I didn't get much but from a whois I got the registrars name: REGIONAL NETWORK INFORMATION CENTER, JSC DBA RU-CENTER. Not very helpful but I guess you can go from there. Maybe a website her school uses?

Have you asked her to login?

It's a log in page for uCoz network, which is some popular Russian targeted, website hosting service and "social network". Comparable to some old school stuff like LiveJournal and Angelfire. They host blogs, forums and stuff.

She 'claims' not to know anything about it, does not know password, etc. We just went ahead and deleted her gmail accounts (had two of them :/) Are there any kid friendly/appropriate email and/or chat sites or programs that she and her friend could use?

Maybe they did it in class as part of a lesson? Windows Live Messenger is pretty safe and simple for a child to learn. Yea it's bloated but that doesn't matter to a child. I've seen many family friends' children use it with ease :)

If you are worried about her signing up to things like that, install K9 Web Security on her machine, its free and an amazing parental control program you can setup to block specific categories

Thanks for the advise, I will look into installing k9 on her system, that seems to be the best think to do at this point in time.
