ZackStorm
My bad, I was trying it from memory :pinch: Anyways, Policeware is something that the government wants to put on your PC to monitor what you download and stuff. I beleive it also disables you from burning CD's/MP3's or something like that, but I can't remember. Go read the site.
[hxc]
they cant limit your cd burning capabilites. first of all, we need the ability to backup information. what about the people that use it for data burning. second, mp3 files are not always illegal music, they could just be voice recordings or even legal music files downloaded form sites like mp3.com
ElectricDemon
removing the policeware would land you in jail?? I can see it now... 'Oops, my screwdriver slipped when I was upgrading, and accidentally damaged the chip witht he policeware on it'... hmmm.. it'll never happen
busdude
I think they are more for digital TVs and other consumer electronic devices and not computers. I highly doubt any govt mandated hardware DRM would ever fly. There would always be a way to "accidently" disable it. :shifty: :shifty: :shifty:

ServaCom
Since alternative operating systems like Linux and FreeBSD would most likely refuse to incorporate government policeware into their code, users of these open-source systems would also be eligible for hard time. I don't think so.

AndyD
That would take a lot of effort/hardware to monitor every single PC in the U.S.
