Anyone use QTTabBar , Are there other similar Programs ?

Question

Hi guys (and girls) , Im in the middle of moving/copying/pasting about 6TB of data between harddrives. Ive never noticed in the past, but why did MS not include Tabs in Windows Explorer (Win7 x64) ? Its soo time consuming havinging window after window open to organise my data the way I want it. Anyhow, after a quick google I came across a program called QTTabBar. Does anyone use it or has used it in the past ? Is it any good ? Are there drawbacks; ie. high CPU/Memory usage ? Finaly, are there any other programs out there that do the same thing as I like to have a choice and to compair before I commit. MANY THANKS

I use QTTabbar, although you need to be a little careful as there are two near identical versions of the program out there

but developed separately by different developers. Try not to make the same mistake I did a few weeks back by installing

the Quizo Apps version over the one available at Sourceforge, as neither are fully intercompatible.

What I recall had happened, one developer (Quizo) decided to quit the original project, leaving the other developer to

continue on his own. Sometime after that, Quizo decided to use the source code from the original project to develop

his own separate version that now has a slightly different feature set than the original version.

If you got to have tabs, I can recommend you the this version: http://qttabbar.sourceforge.net/ that focuses on stability over features. Note that neither is particularly stable, Explorer crashes a lot with QTTabBar so if stability of Explorer is important, avoid it. Also with it being a .NET-based addon, performance is also slightly affected. But it does have some nice features besides tabs.

Thanks, maybe ill stick to stock windows for the time being. I may try a few Linux distros, see if I can get used to using KDE/Gnome3 . Thanks :)

I love QTTabBar, I refuse to use Explorer without it. It's true that it does crash occasionally. To avoid taking down the whole desktop: Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View tab -> check "Launch folder windows in a separate process".
