BxBoy
Is there such thing that lets you split one ethernet connection into 2? sort of like a power Y-spliter. The reason I ask is because when I bring my laptop to school, there is no port to plug it in, so I have to unplug the cable from the desktop computer to plug into my laptop. That's fine and dandy, but when someone tries to access that desktop computer, they won't have internet access. So something like this Y-splitter thing will come in handy, that way both of us can use the connection at the same time.
BxBoy
thought of a better example to describe what I'm talking about.. you know there's couplers (with 2 heads) that let you connect to the phone jack, then you can connect two phones to it. Well, I'm looking for something like this, but the Ethernet version.
Dr.Jones
You will need a hub. An ethernet Hub
liar2
I've seen those at America's Technology Store (radioshack), but they aren't of very good quality at all. They constantly drop your connection. Your best bet would be to get a router or a hub.
BxBoy
I don't want a hub, it's too difficult to carry around. I need something small (that will fit in your pocket).
PureEdit
Yes, these do exist, I have seen them in a computer mag before, and I think I have seen one at best buy :p
eye_see_you
RJ-45 splitter here is a alink to one that we sometimes use on our network and it seems to work fine. we never have problems with the connection being dropped either its all in how they are wired to how they perform. BxBoy
speaking of which, are there any mini hubs that do not require an AC adapter for power?
Frank
speaking of which, are there any mini hubs that do not require an AC adapter for power? I don't believe so, but I may be wrong. woah, $19 for a piece of cable?! for that i could get a cheap hub. Then buy a cheap hub. You stated that you didn't want to carry a hub. Most of the time you get what you pay for. You could probably find a cheaper one, but you will more then likely have problems like liar2 referenced. liar2
http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cata...%5Fid=278%2D785 that's something as to what you're looking for. honestly, it'd be better to just get a router or a hub. they are actually rather portable... to the point you could fit them in your pocket. and i've heard nothing but bad things from these little splitters...
