MS Outlook folder deletion question

Question

If I delete a empty folder in Outlook (2007) that I'm no longer using (all it's contents are archived), will it delete the folder and it's contents from the archive (which I want to keep)?

I'm pretty sure the answer is no but I want to confirm before I tell my boss.

No. The archive folder is separate from the rest of Outlook. Things will only disappear from the archive if you delete them from the archive.

I'm assuming that you are talking about deleting a folder that is sitting under the user's Microsoft Exchange account mailbox, which is stored on the Exchange mail server.

Most archive/PST files are stored locally, on a network drive or external hard drive so deleting the folder from the mailbox will not affect the archive file; just be sure you are deleting the folder under the mailbox!

To be safe anyway, just make a backup of the archive file in another location.
