Enzo Marinelli
I need to use Remote Desktop Connection, from Windows XP, and being able to use Remote Asistance too. I'm behind a router, so I had to use port forwarding. I already forwarded ports 80 and 21, so I can see the main page from Remote Desktop, but I can't actually use it... Help? Enzo Marinelli
No, man... it didn't work :( Notice I checked both UDP and TCP... I tried only TCP but nothing :(
OPaul
Try resetting the router, and it is only TCP.
PCKing
I thought that those features worked only on a LAN...
Frank
I thought that those features worked only on a LAN... I use remote desktop to connect to my PC to home from work. It works great. I think you have to open up more then just one port though. I will check my router setup and let you know.
OPaul
Nah, I have just port 3389 forwarded and I can connect.
Enzo Marinelli
Nope... none of this works: Using only TCP Resetting the router There must be something else we haven't thought of... It's weird, 'cause I've got IIS running, and I can see my homepage from outside, have my FTP folder shared, and I could even use remote desktop. But I ask for remote assistance and the other person tells me it can't connect...
mipra
When you said controlling your desktop from office, how can you do that? I supposed that's a built in future in windows..right?
Enzo Marinelli
No, it's an already old feature on Windows XP Professional. It's called Remote Desktop Connection, and it comes with Internet Information Server 5.
Hypercube
Reverify your routing settings -- see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...5&Product=winxp .
Enzo Marinelli
Reverify your routing settings -- see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...5&Product=winxp . Nope... Thank you for the advice... I followed all those steps, but there was no way for it to work :(
morganpugh84
Did you put names in for the application on the port forwarding settings? I think it only works if they have a name.
Hypercube
This may be very stupid, but its not intended; did you enable remote desktop from control panel > system > properties?
y_notm
try installing the remote desktop web client for IIS and see if you can connect through that
Enzo Marinelli
OK, I'll try that next...
Frank
I think we are going about this all wrong.... and I could even use remote desktop. But I ask for remote assistance and the other person tells me it can't connect... He says remote desktop IS working..... it is remote assistance that is not working Is the port for remote assistance the same for remote desktop? If it is the same port, you may want to ask the person connecting into you if he has opened up the port going OUT of his firewall. The best way to see if his is working is to connect directly to the net.... BTW: I checked my firewall settings, and I only have the one TCP port forwarded.
